Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning treatment with Millie in Middlewich Cheshire

Jade Maines of Beautology performs Dermaplaning treatments at Cheshire Lasers Clinic.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that brightens and gives the skin an instant glow.

A sterile scalpel is used to gently and safely remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin (epidermis).

This non-invasive treatment leaves the skin more receptive to serums and moisturisers, therefore increasing cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin, for a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion.

An added bonus to this treatment is the removal of the vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the surface of the skin. This gives a silky look that allows make-up to be applied flawlessly. The treatment is pain-free and many clients have reported it is as a calm, relaxing experience.

What are the Benefits of Dermaplaning:

Removal of dead skin cells
Increases cell turnover (increased collagen production)
Instantly reveals brighter, glowing skin with minimal downtime
Baby soft skin
Removes vellus hair (peach fuzz)
Aids product absorption by up to 70% allowing serums and moisturisers to reach the lower layers of the skin and be more effective
Make-up glides on and sits on the skin smoothly
Unclogs pores
You can benefit from a one-off treatment for a special occasion or have a course of treatments as part of your regular skincare regime. (every 3-4 weeks)

Will Dermaplaning affect hair growth?

Dermaplaning does not alter the structure of the hair. Hair growth will return as it was before the treatment and WILL NOT grow back faster and thicker.

Contraindications to Dermaplaning:

Active acne – pustules, broken or damaged skin
Oral retinoids – Roaccutane (cannot be taken for at least 6 months before treatment)
Topical retinol is OK
Active skin infections – psoriasis, dermatitis (if on the face)
Auto-Immune diseases – lupus

Cautions for Dermaplaning:

If you have any of the following, please arrange an initial consultation/assessment before booking a treatment:

  • Diabetes that is not controlled (well-controlled diabetics are fine to be treated)
  • Blood thinning medicines
  • Sensitive skin
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Please note:
We do not recommend a Dermaplaning treatment less than 5 days before a sun holiday.  As the skin is highly sensitive to sun rays following the treatment.

Pre-treatment advice:

  • do not use sunbeds on the day of the treatment and for up to 7 days after.
  • arrive to your appointment make-up free or with as little make-up as possible.

The face will be cleansed and prepped as part of the treatment; however, removing excess make-up and stubborn eye make-up will eat into the treatment time. This means less time for the Dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning Aftercare:

Your skin will be slightly red after the treatment and for up to 1 hour after
You can apply make-up immediately after; however, we recommend you allow the serums to absorb into your skin first for best results, which can take several hours.
Please wear a high SPF for at least one week after treatment.
Vellus hair may feel blunt when growing back

Threading

threading hair removal Middlewich Cheshire

The art of threading for hair removal – is now available again at Cheshire lasers.

This ancient art of eyebrow shaping and hair removal originates from Asia. It is now available to male and female clients at the Cheshire Laser Clinic.

Threading has fast become the celebrities’ preferred method for shaping perfect eyebrows and removing hair.

We are lucky to have one of Cheshire’s Threading Experts now working here at Cheshire Lasers Clinic. She will analyse your eyebrows or facial hair and advise you on the perfect solution. She can also remove hair from the chin, lips and face.

Each threading experience is personal, private and nothing short of perfection.

The end result for eyebrows is a precise, symmetrical and accurate arch which also defines your facial features amazingly. The results are a real confidence booster.

For hair removal, the treatment is kinder to the skin and is also less traumatic than waxing as no heat or chemicals are applied. No hair removal treatment can ever be pain-free. However, we use a wonderful desensitising Witch-hazel Solution that will make your threading experience as pleasurable as can be.

Regrowth is finer, softer and smoother – retraining unruly eyebrows to grow in a more flattering direction.

The frequency of your threading experience will depend on personal hair re-growth. Most clients visit us at Cheshire Lasers every 3-4 weeks.

To book your threading experience – for eyebrows, upper lip, chin or the face – call the reception desk at Cheshire Lasers Clinic on 01606 841255.

Botox Information

Botox Cheshire Near me

How long has Botox been available?

Botulinum Toxin has been around since the 1980’s when it was first used for facial muscle spasms and crossed eyes (strabismus). Doctors have used Botulinum Toxin type A in medical practice ever since for treatment of muscle spasticity in conditions such as cerebral palsy, dystonia and facial spasms. It is also used to improve overactive bladders by Urologists, headaches such as migraines when areas in the upper part of the face are treated and also hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating).

In February 2006, a licence was given for the use of Botox for some cosmetic treatments. Since then it has been rebranded as Vistabel. Shortly after Galderma launched Azzalure in the UK. In 2010, Mertz licensed Bocouture for use in select cosmetic treatments in the UK. Botulinum Toxins have been used for cosmetic use to treat areas of the face within and off ‘licence’ safely for over 20 years.

Alluzience manufactured by Galderma was launched in June 2022 in the UK. It has a quicker onset of action and can start working within 24 hours. Alluzience can also have a longer duration of action compared to the other toxin brands currently available.

How does Botox Work?

Botulinum Toxin Type A attaches to receptors on the muscle cells. This prevents the receptors from receiving signals from the nerve cells. The signal being Acetylcholine which causes the muscles to contract. The muscle, therefore can no longer move when the nerve sends the acetylcholine to the muscle cells. The action of Botulinum Toxin is never permanent and wears off after 3 to 4 months.

Facial lines are caused by the regular movement of the facial muscles. Expressions such as squinting and frowning on a regular basis cause lines and wrinkles to appear over time. Similar to when you wear a pair of leather shoes for a long time, the more movement that occurs, the more wear appears.
By reducing the amount of facial muscle movement that occurs, you can soften the visible lines and wrinkles.

Is Botox Safe?

Data shows treatments are safe. Some people worry that Botox may be dangerous, however, administered in the correct manner by a skilled medical professional carries very little risk.
Botox has only a few short-term side effects. These include minimal bruising at the injection sites and minor headaches, which usually last only a short period of time.

Brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A

There are several brands of Botulinum Toxin available on prescription in the UK:

  • Botox and Vistabel  manufactured by Allergan
  • Dysport manufactured by Ipsen
  • Azzalure manufactured by Galderma (the same as Dysport but comes in lower dose vials for cosmetic use)
  • Xeomin and Bocouture manufactured by Merz
  • Alluzience manufactured by Galderma designed to work quicker and last longer

Which brands of Botulinum Toxin do the specialists at Cheshire Lasers use?

At Cheshire Lasers Dr Teri uses Botox, Azzalure, Alluzience and the Bocouture brands.

Moira Grobicki uses Bocouture and Botox brands.

Dr Kyra Drinnan uses Botox.

Dr Hazlehurst uses Bocouture and Botox brands.

Katey of Nevaeh Aesthetics uses Azzalure and Botox.

Milia Removal Treatments

What are Milia?

Milia are very common pearly-white bumps, most commonly seen around the eyes and the upper cheeks. They are tiny cysts that contain keratin and sebum (lipid epithelial plugs or epidermal inclusion cysts). Milia are usually a dome-shape, 1-3mm in diameter, sitting just under the skin surface. They are often seen in clusters and can occur anywhere on the body.

Although milia are harmless and do not usually cause any problems or discomfort, some people do not like how they affect their cosmetic appearance.

milia removal cheshire

Why do I get Milia?

There are two types of milia: primary and secondary.

Primary milia cysts contain keratin; they develop in the pilosebaceous follicle just under the skin. Primary milia are often seen on babies’ facial skin; people often call them milk spots. These milia nearly always go as the baby’s skin matures.

milia removal

Milia seen in adults are less likely to go. Research suggests that milia in adults may be due to skin damage or using products containing mineral oil and lanolin. It suggests that milia arise because of a build-up of lanolin and mineral oil in the follicles.

Secondary milia occur due to skin trauma such as sunburn, radiotherapy or long-term steroid use.

How Can I Remove Milia?

Milia removal / treatment is not available on the NHS as they are a cosmetic problem. There are no prescription treatments currently available to help them.

Milia Removal with Topical Treatments

Occasionally, some milia improve with topical retinoids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend Neostrata Eye Cream for parents prone to milia under the eyes, and our ph formula recovery or synergy serums for other less sensitive facial areas.

Milia Treatment with a Sterile Needle

Skin specialists often remove milia with a sterile needle. For this procedure to succeed, removing the whole milia is essential. This procedure usually leaves a small red mark /ulcer where the milia were, which often heals quickly.

Milia Removal with Hyfrecation

Hyfrecation is an excellent treatment for destroying and therefore completly removing the entire milia cyst. This involves a fine-tip needle delivering an electric current or radiofrequency energy into the lesion. At Cheshire Lasers, this is our treatment of choice for removing milia.
Dr Kathryn Hazlehurst and Aesthetic nurse Moira  removes them using advanced electrocautery, and Helena Fryer removes them using advanced electrolysis.
These procedures usually leave a small red mark /ulcer where the milia were, which often heals quickly.

Milia Removal with Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is an alternative treatment method. It freezes the cyst, leaving a small blister that can take over a week to resolve.

Prevention of Milia

If you are prone to Milia, you will find more will probably return over time. The use of retinol products and AHAs that stimulate cell renewal and encourage a faster skin cycle turnover can reduce the risk of them returning.

Also, it is crucial to avoid skin products which contain mineral oils and lanolin, as these increase the risk of reoccurrence.

Which areas can Cheshire Lasers treat?

Facial Surgeon Mr Will Allen, Aesthetic Nurse Moira, Dr Hazlehurst and Aesthetician Helena remove Milia from the face, including the under-eye area. Although it is unusual to get them elsewhere, they can easily be removed from the body. We recommend you see Moira or Dr Hazlehurst for body treatments to ensure the skin lesion is diagnosed correctly before treatment.

Could treatment leave a scar?

It is very unusual to be left with a scar after the removal of Milia. A small red mark /ulcer usually develops after treatment of the milia and heals very quickly.

Botox Treatments

botox treatment Cheshire

Botox is the name most people use for a range of various cosmetic and medical treatments.Botox is one of the first brand names used for this prescription only treatment and is produced by Allergan.

The term Botox usually refers to the use of Botulinum Toxin type A  to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Botulinum Toxin is a protein which acts as a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum.

Botulinum Toxin has been around since the 1980’s when it was first used for facial muscle spasms and crossed eyes (strabismus).

Data shows treatments are safe with a few short term side effects such as minimal bruising at the injection sites and minor headaches which are short lived. Some people worry that Botox may be dangerous, however administered in the correct manner by a skilled medical professional carries very little risk.

Pigmentation Removal for Specific Conditions:

pigmentation image Cheshire treatment laser

Here at Cheshire Lasers, we offer a wide range of treatments for improving pigmentation. Different treatments often suit different pigment conditions.

On this page, we discuss the different conditions and what we recommend to improve them.

Birthmarks

Some birthmarks are easy to treat, while others are much more difficult. At Cheshire Lasers, we are able to successfully treat vascular birthmarks such as port wine stains with our advanced IPL Lumina system.

Brown birthmarks are much harder to treat and do not always respond to treatment; an ND Yag laser would be used to treat this type of pigmentation. If the brown birthmark does respond and go, there is a 50% risk it will recur over a 2-year period. We often recommend you visit Lynton Lasers in Homes Chapel for these as they have a different laser than can be used.

Age spots and Freckles

IPL and Laser

Age spots, pigmentation caused by sun damage and freckles respond nicely to our advanced IPL Lumina system. Our IPL treatment is fantastic for small spots and patches of pigment. If the response is poor we can use the ND Yag laser instead.

This treatment is usually only suitable for skin types 1 to 3.

Before starting treatment we may recommend you use a lightening skin product from one of our skin care product ranges 2- 6 weeks before starting an IPL or Laser treatment. This is often required for skins that are darker or are more prone to pigmentation.

For IPL and Laser treatment please book a consultation with Natasha our laser technician. She will advise you how to proceed and if you are ready to go ahead with treatment she can do a test patch at the time of the consultation.

Prescription Lightening Products

We can also treat these lesions with prescription lightening creams, the results are optimised if you a prescription regime of products such as the Obagi NuDerm system which gives fantastic results, or the ZO Medical System.

The Perfect Peel

Some people prefer to treat their pigmentation with a peel. This is usually recommended by us for people with a larger areas of pigmentation. The advantages of the perfect peel is the minimal down time compared to IPL and lasers and the process is pain free. After one application the age spots are remarkably lighter and many people are happy. However a course of 2-3 peels may be required for them to be unnoticeable. The ingredients not only improve pigmentation but also increase collagen and elastin production, resulting in skin that is brighter and tighter. Find out more about the perfect peel here.

Melasma

Melasma presents as dark, irregular patches on the face that develop over time. The dark patches are commonly found on sun-exposed areas such as the upper cheeks, nose, upper lip and forehead. Melasma is most common in women and is often triggered by pregnancy and or the contraceptive pill. Melasma worsens when the skin is exposed to sunlight, especially in the summer.

The treatment of melasma can be tricky with some people. The superficial (epidermal) type melasma often shows an excellent response to therapy. However, deeper melasma (dermal melasma) can often have a suboptimal effect on many treatments. This is why the first step to treatment involves a detailed consultation with one of our healthcare professionals. The cause and type of melasma can be established and treatment can be individualised and tailored to each patient’s needs.

There are several treatments available at Cheshire Lasers to treat Melasma.

The Obagi NuDerm system

The Obagi NuDerm system gives fantastic results with melasma, even after a few weeks use, the pigment usually looks so much better.  You need to continue on the system for 18 weeks, after which your skin usually looks great. After 18 weeks you need to go on to a simpler maintenance regime to avoid rebound pigmentation. If you suddenly stop the treatment, the pigment usually comes back. Occasionally, stubborn Melasma may need a peel to complete the treatment on this system.

Cysteamine Cream

Cystamine is a fantastic skin-lightening agent used to treat hyperpigmentation disorders such as age spots, melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

It is a novel, highly effective alternative to prescription treatments such as hydroquinone and tretinoin.  All skin types can use Cysteamine Cream, including dark skin and is a great option for stubborn pigmentation, including melasma and post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Find out more about Cyspera Intensive Cysteamine Cream here.

Find out about Senté Cysteamine HSA Pigment & Tone Corrector here

To discuss this, book a consultation with Natasha or Anna.

The Perfect Peel

The Perfect Peel can be used on its own for melasma in fair-skinned patients. Peels should be used very carefully for darker skin types and often, a combination of treatments are required. This is because they are associated with a higher risk of post‑inflammatory hyperpigmentation ( PIH) after skin injury. Hence a consultation is required before having this peel.

At Cheshire Lasers, we do not like to use our Intense Pulsed Light or ND Yag Laser to treat Melasma. There is a higher risk of side effects and the response rate is poor.

Find out more general information about pigmentation removal at Cheshire Lasers Clinic here.

Preventing Melasma and Pigmentation

The challenge with treating melasma and some pigmentation is that it commonly relapses after treatment.

The most important way of preventing pigmentation is to wear a good sun protection all year round and a sun block in the Summer.

To try and prevent melasma and stubborn pigmentation maintenance therapy is required. This can be performed using similar skin care to what is used for its treatment but on a maintenance regime. We recommend you start skin care immediately after treatment. We also advise you attend regular reviews at the clinic in case your regime needs changing. So we can help you manage the pigmentation to reduce the risk of it returning.

For a more holistic approach there is increasing evidence that diet has a significant impact on skin inflammation, post inflammatory acne, and melasma. If you struggle with pigmentation and can not get it under control. We highly recommend an assessment with Dr Priyanka at Cheshire Lasers to look at your Pigmentation, your removal treatments so far and to explore this holistic approach.

Ultraformer Wrinkle Treatment

Cheshire Lasers is excited to now have the Ultraformer MF2 wrinkle treatment.

The sensitive and shallow regions around the eye, the mouth and the forehead can now be treated with ultrasound technology with ease due to the newly developed MF2 Ultraformer Treatment.

What can the MF2 Ultraformer Wrinkle Cartridge treat?

The great news is that we can improve fine lines and wrinkles with only one treatment. However, we recommend a course of around three treatments for best results. Different people respond differently and have their skin has different needs and starting points.

You can view our Ultraformer MF2 before and after images here.

Ultraformer MF2 Treatment Areas:

The Upper Lip

We have treated upper lips with the Ultraformer MF2 with considerable success so far. This is an excellent treatment for smokers lines and would suit someone who is afraid to have Dermal Fillers but wants improvement to the area with no downtime.

This treatment is also suitable for someone who has had fillers in that area already, and the lines are starting to come back, but they are not ready for more fillers.

The Perioral Area

The area in the image is treated to improve fine lines and wrinkles. This treatment improves the smokers lines and the cobblestone effect that can occur in this area due to age and sun-damage.

The Under Eye Area

We have treated the under eye area the Ultraformer MF2 and seen impressive results so far.

This area is challenging to improve; in the past, the treatments we have tried have required many repeat treatments and given only slight improvements or have been too invasive, requiring an extended downtime.

The MF2 treatment may only require three treatments, and there is no downtime.

There is the option to also treat the crow’s feet and part of the upper eyelid with this treatment.

Read the science about how the Ultraformer Treatment works

Does the Ultraformer MF2 treatment hurt?

The treatment feels like warm pulses of ultrasound energy, which may feel uncomfortable for some people. Treatment around the mouth and perioral areas may feel sensitive in the teeth momentarily.

How many Ultraformer MF2 treatments will I need?

Some people will see a small improvement after one treatment but generally, we recommend a course of 3 treatments once a month. However, this will depend on the severity of the condition to start with and the collagen stimulation response of each client.

At Cheshire Lasers, we have found fine lines and wrinkles that have been there a few years have needed 2-3 treatments. Whereas lines that have been there many years have required at least 5 or 6 procedures.

Can I have the Ultraformer MF2 treatment if I have Botox or fillers?

The MF2 treatment is an alternative treatment to fillers; however, it can be used alongside a filler treatment to create even better results.
If a dermal filler is in the treatment area, we ask that you leave three months for the filler to integrate with the tissues before having an Ultraformer treatment. For Botox, the MF2 treatment can be performed in the same area 2 weeks after the injections.

How long will the Ultraformer MF2 results last for?

Following the final treatment session of the course, it will take 60-100 days for the collagen to stimulate and for the full results to be visible. The results can last up to 12 months. However most people like to have a maintenance treatment every 2-4 months.

Are there any side effects to the Ultraformer MF2 treatment?

Common side effects after the treatment are redness and swelling. This normally reduces a few hours after and you can go back to your regular daily activities straight away.

Bruising can occur, which is more likely around the eye area.

Am I suitable for an Ultraformer MF2 treatment?

We do not recommend the Ultraformer treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have teeth implants in the treatment area or metal braces. However invisaline braces, veneers and fillings are all fine.

Prices for the Ultraformer MF2 Wrinkle Treatment:

Single Treatment Course of Three
Upper Lip £200 £500
Perioral area £300 £750
Half Eye £200 £500
Full Eye £300 £750

Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal Cheshire

Tattoo Removal at Cheshire Lasers

At Cheshire Lasers we use A Lynton Q-Switch Laser for Tattoo Removal. Made locally in Holmes Chapel by Lynton Lasers, it uses the most advanced technology for Tattoo Removal. Q switch lasers are the only type of laser that are safe and effective for the removal of tattoos.

Not all lasers are the same and not just any laser can safely remove tattoos.

What type of Tattoos can our Lasers fade?

Our laser can fade away tattoos of various size and colour. Tattoos are of two main types: the Indian ink amateur tattoo or the multi-coloured, professional tattoo.

What colour Tattoos can it fade?

Single-colour tattoos usually respond best to laser tattoo removal. Multi-coloured, professional tattoos are much more difficult to eradicate completely.

Black, blue and red colours in the tattoo respond best to treatment, but green, yellow and purple pigment can be more difficult.

Green coloured tattoos may require different lasers for successful treatment and we may need to recommend a specialist clinic with a ruby laser to remove this colour.

At Cheshire Lasers Tattoo Removal is popular for people who:

  • Wish they had never got a tattoo
  • Who are looking to fade a tattoo for a new design
  • Need to remove a tattoo to help pursue a career

What happens during a Tattoo Removal Treatment?

Active Q-Switch Lasers that generate a high powered beam of laser light in an extremely short pulse are the most suitable lasers for tattoo removal treatment. The light is absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink. A gradual fading of the tattoo occurs over a series of treatments.

The skin is cleaned and the laser applicator is passed over the tattoo releasing quick pulses of light. You will hear an audible clicking noise as the ink particles shatter. After treatment, we will apply a dressing to keep the area clean and dry.

What does it feel like?

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a hot pin prick or the flick of an elastic band. Whilst mildly uncomfortable, most people tolerate the treatment well. A skin cooling device may be utilised to reduce any discomfort.

How does the skin look after a Tattoo Removal treatment?

An instant whitening of the skin occurs but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a few hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours.  Initially, the tattoo is unlikely to look any different but will fade over 4 to 8 weeks as the body breaks down and disperses the pigmentation.

What is the recovery period?

Some tattoos can graze or blister, if so make sure you left to heal naturally. After your treatment, we will apply a dressing. Keep the area dressed and covered until the area heals. This is important if you develop blistering or grazing, it is also important not to not pick the area while it is healing.

Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or larger blisters may form.

Changes to skin texture and scarring is possible, though very uncommon and is more likely if grazes are not allowed to heal naturally. There may be loss of natural tanning ability in the area treated which usually improves with time.

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on a number of factors such as the density and colour of the tattoo and the age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos can be quick to remove, taking 1 to 6 treatments, whereas professional tattoos vary considerably and can take up to 15 treatments. We recommend you have your treatments every 6 to12 weeks.

Treatment can take 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the size of the tattoo.

At Cheshire Lasers we also provide Tattoo fading for clients who wish to alter a part of their tattoo.

What is Trilogyice Hair Removal?

3D-Trilogyice hair removal uses three laser wavelengths in a single handpiece which simultaneously target different anatomical structures within the hair follicle.  The melanin content in the hair attracts the pulses to conduct heat at a temperature above that of the surrounding dermal tissue. This heat damages the hair follicle and results in long term hair reduction.

This combination of wavelengths provides the safest and most comprehensive hair removal solution currently available today.

The Benefits of Trilogyice

  • Precision application

Is it Safe?

Trilogyice is an in-motion laser, this involves moving the laser applicator over the treatment area quickly. The applicator has a cooling tip which reduces the discomfort as well as ensuring safe, comfortable and effective hair removal. The laser heats the dermis and damages the hair follicles, without injuring the surrounding tissue.

The Trilogyice in motion protocol ensures virtually pain-free and effective hair reduction.

What happens during the treatment?

The handpiece is applied to the skin using gliding movements. You will experience may a warming sensation and some heat. After treatment, there can be a slight pinkness to the skin. The treatment itself is virtually painless.
