Microdermabrasion

microdermabrasion Cheshire

At Cheshire Lasers, we have a Dermagenesis machine it delivers a medical-grade Microdermabrasion treatment. Unlike treatments in beauty salons, we are able to remove the entire layer of the stratum corneum if needed. This procedure can be performed on the face, chest, neck, arms or hands.

This enables us to treat various skin conditions as well as improve the appearance of your skin.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is when tiny rough grains are used to buff away the top surface layer of skin. Many different products and treatments use this method, including medical procedures, salon treatments and creams and scrubs that you apply yourself at home.

How does Microdermabrasion work?

The skin consists of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It’s a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

With Microdermabrasion you remove or break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment, this causes mild oedema (swelling) and erythema (redness). Depending on the individual, these side effects can last anywhere from an hour to two days.
This process improves the skin’s surface, and the healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. The skin’s visible imperfections, from sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin.

Studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatment at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well, as removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.

Does Microdermabrasion hurt?

The procedure is not very painful and requires no anaesthetic. Microdermabrasion can be used medically for scar removal when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin but is less effective with sunken scars.

What can Microdermabrasion treat?

Microdermabrasion can be used for the treatment of acne, pigmentation and for anti-ageing but must be repeated periodically to be effective.

Microdermabrasion After Care:

For best results, we recommend you use our Agera skin care products.
We recommend you use the Agera recovery cream and an SPF protection as a minimum.
Using the Agera Mag C serum will help stimulate new collagen production and enhance the results.

Should you have any specific skin problems such as acne or pigmentation please arrange a consultation with one of our Aestheticians who will be able to recommend the most appropriate skin care regime to use alongside your treatments.

The following conditions may make you unsuitable for Microdermabrasion:

Active rosacea
Fragile capillaries
Vascular lesions
Widespread acne
Open sores
Skin lesions
Anyone who takes anti-coagulants
Eczema
Dermatitis
Psoriasis
Lupus
Erythematosus
Diabetes mellitus

The Dermalux treatment offers a natural, pain-free and effective way to achieve youthful and healthy skin. The visible effects can be immediate, after just one treatment. It also provides treatment of compromised and reactive skin conditions. It helps Acne and Rosacea, Pigmentation and other inflammatory disorders as an Eczema, Dermatitis and Psoriasis.

Whats is Dermalux?

Dermalux uses colour wavelengths of visible light that stimulate specific responses in the skin. Its affects on the skin are anti-ageing, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and it promotes healing.

Is Dermalux Safe?

Yes, it is safe and anyone can have this treatment unless you have a condition that makes you light sensitive.

Everyone can benefit from LED light therapy. LED’s emit a low-level light energy that will not burn or irritate the skin. It is suitable for all skin types and age groups. There is also no risk of unwanted side effects or downtime, which is often seen with more invasive procedures.

The technology of LED Light therapy is over 100 years old. It has been shown in independent clinical research to deliver powerful therapeutic benefits to living tissue. It is medically recognised and has approval to treat for a wide range of skin concerns. LED light is rapidly becoming one of the most powerful skincare treatments.

What can Dermalux treat?

How does LED Phototherapy work?

LED Phototherapy uses colour wavelengths of visible light which have specific rejuvenating benefits within the skin. Skin cells have the ability to absorb light and use it as a source of energy to fuel the repair and rejuvenation of damaged cells or neutralise bacteria. It is a natural biochemical reaction similar to that of plant photosynthesis. The increased energy enhances cellular metabolism which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This also boosts the circulation and accelerates tissue repair. Studies show LED light wavelengths stimulate skin cells to regenerate themselves on average 150% to 200% faster. They also show LED can increase hydration by up to 600%. This whole process results in radiant, youthful and naturally healthy skin.

What are the benefits of LED light therapy?

Red LED light

Used for Skin Rejuvenation, Anti-Ageing and Healing. Red light has a powerful anti-ageing and anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. It is also an excellent treatment for sufferers of sensitive skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema and psoriasis. LED Red Light benefits include:

  • Minimises fine lines and wrinkles
  • Skin is smoother, firmer and plump
  • Evens skin tone
  • Increases hydration
  • Soothes irritation and redness
  • Stimulates blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Accelerates the healing process
  • Restores natural luminosity and glow

Blue LED light

Used for Acne and Congested Skin. Blue light has powerful anti-bacterial properties that decongest and purify acne and problematic skin and help to normalise oil production. LED Blue Light benefits include:

  • Assists in killing bacteria in the skin
  • Reduces active acne
  • Prevents breakouts
  • Shrinks enlarged pores
  • Helps to fight infection
  • A great alternative to medication

Blue light can also help in the treatment of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) as it reduces the amount of melatonin released. It also has anti-spasmodic properties that relieve tension and headaches. These properties have shown to produce a ‘botox’ like effect in the skin. It is effective in the treatment of bacterial and viral infections such as cold sores and helps to safeguard against bacterial reaction when used in combination with resurfacing, invasive and ablative procedures.

Combined Red & Blue LED light

Helps improve sensitive and problematic skin. The red and blue light in combination offers enhanced benefits and is clinically proven to be one of the most effective treatments for inflammatory acne and scarring currently available. Combined Lights benefits include:

  • Improved acne treatment
  • Gently purifies without irritation
  • Normalises unbalanced skin
  • Reduces inflammation and swelling

Infra-Red LED light

Infra-Red Light in an invisible red light known as infrared. It is the most deeply absorbed wavelength and can penetrate the skin to a depth of up of 40 mm. The deep-reaching benefits also make it effective in the treatment of muscular and joint pain and inflammation. It also helps deeper lines and wrinkles, skin laxity and loss of skin density. It improves uneven skin tone and texture, age spots and hyperpigmentation, photo and environmental damage and stubborn, hormonal and cystic acne.

Infrared light also helps reduce muscular and joint pain inflammation, swelling and bruising, poor circulation and sluggish lymphatic system, wound healing and scar reduction (including burns and ulcers), stretch marks and post-treatment healing.

Infrared light works synergistically with Red light to achieve optimum rejuvenation and repair. This combination of light therapy stimulates the body’s regenerative metabolism and enhances cellular function for improved strength, resilience and immunity making it a powerful anti-ageing and healing treatment.

You can also combine infrared with the blue light.

Can I see results straight away?

Following a Dermalux treatment, there are some immediate visible changes in the skin but most changes occur naturally over a series of treatments. Results may continue to improve up to 4-6 weeks after a course as LED Phototherapy continues to stimulate the natural cellular processes to rejuvenate and improve the quality of the skin.

How many Dermalux treatments do I need?

We recommend a course of treatments for optimal and lasting results. However, a single Dermalux session is an ideal ‘pick me up’ to replenish vital hydration, restore radiance or simply to calm irritated skin. You can combine Dermalux LED Phototherapy with other skin treatments to further enhance results.

At Cheshire Lasers, we provide the following Dermalux Treatments:

Express Dermalux 35-minute Facial –  Includes a basic facial and a 25-minute light treatment
Classic Dermalux 55-minute Facial – Includes a standard facial and 25-minute light treatment

The Hydrafacial

Hydrafacial Cheshire

Aesthetician Kate performs our Hydrafacial Treatments at Cheshire Lasers.

What is a Hydrafacial?

The “Hydrafacial” treatment is the newest advance in non-laser skin resurfacing. Hydrafacial is a hydradermabrasion procedure it combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection simultaneously. It delivers clearer, smoother, hydrated more beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime, it is non-invasive and non-irritating.

How many Treatments do I need?

Many people see visible skin improvement after just one treatment. The results and skin hydration can last between 5 and 7 days, sometimes longer. The hydrafacial is an ideal one-off treatment for a special occasion or a ‘freshen-up’.

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend a series of three to ten Hydrafacials for best results every 2 to 6 weeks. A course of treatments can improve fine lines, wrinkles, acne and oily skin and even hyperpigmentation.

We will assess your skin and customise a treatment programme incorporating the various serums, growth factors, peel products and can add in an LED treatment depending on your requirements.

If you have no skin concerns a treatment once a month is enough to provide a deep cleanse and maintain radiant hydrated skin.

How long does a Hydrafacial take?

Treatment usually takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the additional options used during treatment, e.g., peel product, LED light etc.

Hydrafacial uses specifically designed application tips which gently exfoliate the skin and allow the unique SKIN SERUMS to be pushed deeper into the skin – producing a plumped-up effect!

Is there any downtime?

No.

You can return to work and normal activities immediately after treatment. Your skin will look and feel, fresh, hydrated and more radiant. Redness may occur but is unusual after a hydrafacial, unlike microdermabrasion where it is normal to expect redness.

Try not to wash off the pumped serum in your skin until the next day. Let the serum stay in the skin overnight to get the absolute benefit while you sleep. If you do not like going out without makeup it, you may prefer to schedule your Hydrafacial towards the end of the day if you can.

Am I suitable for a Hydrafacial Treatment?

The Hydrafacial treatment is clinically proven to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, congested and enlarged pores, oily or acne-prone skin, hyperpigmentation and brown spots.

The Hydrafacial procedure is safe for most skin types and colours including thin or ageing skin, ethnic skin, and dry skin or oily skin.

We do not recommend Hydrafacial if:

  • Recent isotretinoin in the last 12 months.
  • Active skin infections, such as herpes simplex (cold sores).
  • History of problems associated with skin healing.
  • You are pregnant.

Can I combine a Hydrafacial Treatment with other Treatments?

Hydrafacial can be used as a stand-alone treatment or as part of a treatment program alongside Intense Pulsed Lights, Radio Frequency, HIFU, Microdermabrasion and L.E.D’s. Hydrafacial provides visible lasting improvements to the appearance of the skin, reducing pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles!

At Cheshire Lasers we commonly combine the Hydrafacial with Microdermasion to deliver the ultimate skin polish treatment “Microderm Hydrafacial”. We also combine it with our Dermalux LED treatment for concerns such as acne, congestion, as well as ageing skin needing a collagen boost.

hydra facial Cheshire

During the Hydrafacial treatment, the ‘gunk’ on your skin and in your pores is removed and is collected in a transparent collection cylinder. After the treatment, you can examine the amount of gunk removed from your skin. It’s the part of the Hydrafacial treatment that our clients love the most. It has become so popular that getting ‘de-gunked’ and displaying ‘after treatment’ gunkie pictures has become a social media phenomenon!

At Cheshire Lasers we offer the following Hydrafacial Treatments:

Basic Hydrafacial – 30 minutes

Skin Health Hydrafacial – which includes a mild peel exfoliating treatment – 40 minutes

Skin Health Hydrafacial with a longer extraction time for skin with excessive comedones- 50 minutes

Hydrafacial with Dermabuilder – an additional Growth Factor Serum treatment for enhanced anti-ageing results – 50 minutes

Add a 25 minutes LED light therapy treatment to any of these treatments for enhanced results.

The Obagi Nu-Derm System is a prescription-only skincare system which accelerates skin cell turnover. The system penetrates deep to improve pigmentation and damage in all layers of the skin.

Dr Teri Johnson provides the consultations for the Obagi Nu-derm System at Cheshire Lasers as the tretamnet has to be prescribed. She can advise you which regime would suit you best and also give you advice and support throughout the treatment.

The Obagi Nu-Derm System optimises skin functions at the cellular level to help it look and act younger and healthier. The active ingredients trigger a cascade of actions that:

  • Promotes new skin cells on the surface, resulting in smoother skin and reduced lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces uneven pigmentation found in freckles, melasma and age spots and prevents the formation of new pigmentation
  • Promotes uniform distribution of cells at the deep layers improving skin structure and evening tone
  • Boosts collagen and elastin production for firmer and resilient skin with fewer lines and wrinkles

  • Obagi Clear – its main active ingredient is 4% hydroquinone; it blocks the production of melanin, thus reducing hyperpigmentation problems caused by excessive peeling.
  • Obagi Exfoderm – its main active ingredient is a mild acid called phytic acid – it makes normal to dry skin peel even further or Obagi Exfoderm Forte – another exfoliating product based on AHA’s – glycolic and lactic acids; it’s designed to increase penetration of hydroquinone in normal to oily skin.
  • Obagi Blender – the product has 4% hydroquinone and is mixed with a tretinoin-based cream.
  • Obagi Hydrate
  • Obagi SunShield protects against UVA rays linked to deep, premature ageing as well as UVB responsible for burning.

  • tightening of pores
  • further lightening of freckles, age spots and dark patches

IPL Skin Rejuvenation

Laser Hair Removal Treatments Middlewich Cheshire

At Cheshire Lasers, we have a wide rang of treatments for skin rejuvenation.
Cheshire Lasers uses the Intense Pulsed Light ( IPL) system for skin rejuvenation when there are brown spots (pigmentation) or redness caused by thread veins.

Pulsed light quickly removes brown and thread veins and stimulates the production of new collagen.

At Cheshire Lasers, we us a Lynton Aqs System made by Lynton Lasers a local company from Holmes Chapel with a fantastic reputation.

IPL Skin Rejuvenation Consultation Procedure

Prior to any treatment our Level 4 Laser Technician will provide a full consultation. The consultation identifies your expectations and provides a complete explanation of the treatment. A medical history is taken to confirm suitability for treatment. If you wish to proceed, written informed consent is obtained, and a test patch is performed to confirm there are no adverse skin reactions to the light.

How does Intense Pulsed Light work?

Intense pulsed light systems release precisely controlled short pulses of filtered light that stimulate the fibroblast cells within the skin that produce collagen and elastin. This improves the radiancy and tightness of the skin, controlling enlarged pores, and giving a more uniform complexion.

What does an IPL Skin Rejuvenation Treatment involve?

After cleaning the skin a mild, we will apply a gentle skin peel to remove the top layers of dead skin.

To protect your eyes, you will need to wear goggles.
We will apply a layer of cool gel to the treatment area to guide the light into the skin.
The light applicator is placed onto the skin, and a quick light pulse is released. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area, which is repeated until the entire area is treated. The chilled gel is removed, and the area is cooled.

Am I suitable for treatment?

This treatment is only suitable for lighter skin tones.

At the bottom of this page, we list other skin rejuvenation treatments which we can discuss if you have a darker skin tone.

We can not recommend treatment if you have the following conditions:

  • pregnant or breastfeeding
  • infections on the skin
  • broken, angry inflamed skin
  • light-sensitive medication or medical conditions
  • medications that make skin delicate and sensitive to injury
  • recent sun exposure or planned sun exposure up to 4 weeks after treatment
  • keloid scarring

How Does the treatment feel?

You will not need anaesthesia for this treatment. Most patients describe the discomfort as moderate and acceptable and liken it to a quick pinprick.

Is IPL Skin Rejuvenation safe?

The skin of some patients becomes quite red after treatment. Very rarely the skin may become lighter or darker, or small blisters may form. However, most patients experience little or no side effects and any skin reaction usually disappears within a few hours.

What should I expect after the treatment?

Redness and a slight warming sensation are normal after treatment. We will cool the skin to ease these symptoms. You may see a darkening of any pigmented spots before they flake off, leading to an evening of skin tone. Skin tightening should increase over the following months as new collagen is regenerates within the dermis. Some patients notice a slight swelling over the cheekbones, which may last for up to 72 hours.

How many treatments are necessary?

Treatments should be every four weeks; you may need up to 6 treatments for maximum results.
After this, we recommend top-up sessions to maintain the results.

How long does each treatment take?

A facial treatment usually takes about 30 – 45 minutes.

RioBlush CarboxyTherapy

At Cheshire Lasers, Dr Teri Johnson performs CarboxyTherapy using our Rioblush machine.

carboxytherapy Cheshire

What is CarboxyTherapy?

Rioblush Carboxy Therapy is a safe, minimally-invasive, all-natural medical procedure that involves injecting carbon dioxide into the tissues.

What does CarboxyTherapy Treat?

At Cheshire Lasers, we use CarboxyTherapy to treat stretch marks and cellulite on the body.

We also treat fine lines around eyes and mouth, dark under-eye circles and the face, neck, and decolletage for rejuvenation.

How does CarboxyTherapy work?

As we age, blood circulation in the dermis reduces; this means less oxygen gets to the cells. As a result, new cell and collagen production slow down over time, and in some cases stops altogether.

Every cell in our body releases carbon dioxide as a waste product. Our red blood cells take this carbon dioxide to the lungs where it leaves the body. These red blood cells also deliver oxygen to our cells. They release the oxygen molecules when they encounter carbon dioxide in the tissues.

Injecting natural carbon dioxide gas under the skin tricks the body into believing it needs more oxygen. This kick starts your body’s natural restorative processes, increasing blood flow. The oxygenation of the areas increases stimulating accelerated healing, new collagen and cell growth.

Clinical studies have shown CarboxyTherapy stimulates skin and dermal rejuvenation and also destroys fat cells.

What happens during CarboxyTherapy treatment?

Carboxytherapy involves multiple small injections with a very thin needle. Medical-grade carbon dioxide gas is injected, at a temperature and rate dictated by the problem and your pain threshold.

How long does it take?

Treatment can take from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. The time will depend on the size of the area, and how uncomfortable you find it.

Is CarboxyTherapy painfull?

Some patients may experience mild discomfort, slight burning, itching, or a tingling sensation. However other people may find it more painful.   The Rioblush Carboxy Therapy system can heat the carbon dioxide gas, which improves the discomfort.

As the treatment continues, you may experience a warm sensation around the treatment area.

How long is the recovery time after the treatment?

The treatment requires no recovery time.

Swelling and redness are often seen after treatment, but these usually go after a few minutes or a few hours. It is common to develop some small bruises after the treatment.

We advise you to avoid strenuous activity, bathing, swimming, saunas for 4 hours after treatment.

Contraindications to CarboxyTherapy

This safe procedure has a few contraindications

  • Pregnancy
  • Severe Anaemia
  • Active Skin / Tissue Infections

Any condition or medication (e.g. Apixiban or Aspirin) that thins the blood is a relative contraindication.

How many sessions will I need?

Most conditions require an average of 6 and 12 treatments. Each person is unique, so some people may see slight improvements after the first treatment. However, usually, it takes up to one month for the body to properly react to the process.

How long will the benefits last?

The results for stretch marks can be permanent.

For cellulite and skin rejuvenation treatments, you will require maintenance treatments every few months to maintain the benefits.
