Which Treatment is best for the under eye area Polynucleotides or Tear Trough Fillers?

Polynucleotides treatments like Plenhyage, Plinest & Nucleofill

Under-Eye Rejuvenation Treatments: Polynucleotides vs Fillers

Are you confused about under-eye injectable treatments?
Dr Teri Johnson explains the difference between two popular eye treatments, the pros and cons, and which concerns they treat the best.

Polynucleotide (PN) Treatments

Advantages:

Polynucleotides are often the most popular treatment for treating the under-eye area. This is due to their regenerative nature, which provides natural-looking results perfect for addressing the problems seen in the under-eye area.

Here are some reasons why PN treatments may be favoured above tear trough fillers under the eye:

Tissue regeneration:

PN treatments stimulate the body’s natural regenerative processes, promoting collagen production and skin rejuvenation. This can help improve skin texture, elasticity, and overall appearance under the eyes, addressing concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity.

Natural results:

PN treatments can provide more subtle and natural results than tear trough fillers, which can sometimes lead to overfilling or an unnatural appearance. By enhancing the body’s natural collagen production, PN treatments can yield more subtle and gradual improvements that blend seamlessly with the surrounding skin.

Non-invasive approach:

PN treatments are typically administered through minimally invasive injections, making them a preferred option for individuals who prefer non-surgical or minimally invasive procedures. This can result in minimal downtime and reduced risk of complications compared to tear trough fillers, which involve the injection of dermal fillers into the delicate under-eye area.

Long-term benefits:

While tear-trough fillers may provide immediate results, their effects can be temporary and may require repeated treatments to maintain the desired outcome. In contrast, PN treatments can provide more sustained, long-term benefits by promoting natural collagen production and skin regeneration.

Safety profile:

PN treatments generally have a favourable safety profile, with minimal risk of adverse reactions or complications when administered by a qualified healthcare professional. This makes them a safer option for individuals concerned about the potential risks associated with tear trough fillers.

Disadvantages:

While polynucleotide (PN) treatments have shown promising results in skin rejuvenation, there are disadvantages that individuals should be aware of before undergoing this procedure.

Limited immediate results:

Unlike some other cosmetic procedures, the results of PN treatments are not immediately apparent. It takes time for the body to respond to the treatment and for the desired improvements in skin texture and appearance to become noticeable.

Temporary nature of results:

While PN treatments can stimulate collagen production and promote skin rejuvenation, the results are not permanent. To maintain the desired outcomes, individuals may require multiple treatment sessions over time, which can involve ongoing time and financial commitments.

Varied individual responses:

The effectiveness of PN treatments can vary from person to person, depending on factors such as skin type, age, and overall health. Some individuals may experience more significant improvements than others, and the degree of response may not be predictable.

Cost considerations:

PN treatments can be relatively costly, especially when considering the need for multiple treatment sessions to achieve and maintain the desired results.

Tear Trough Fillers

Advantages:

Tear trough fillers are a popular choice for addressing hollowing under the eyes. This is due to their ability to provide immediate and visible skin lifting.  Tear trough fillers are preferred under the eye for the following reasons:

Immediate results:

Tear trough fillers provide immediate volume correction by filling the hollow under the eyes. This quick and noticeable improvement is highly desirable for individuals seeking immediate results.

Targeted Lifting of Hollowing:

Tear trough fillers lift depressions under the eyes, reducing the appearance of under-eye hollows.

Customisable treatments:

Tear trough fillers allow for precise and customisable treatments tailored to the unique anatomical needs of each patient. A suitable individual filler can achieve a natural lift to improve the hollow under the eye area.

Disadvantages:

While tear trough fillers can effectively treat under-eye hollows, there are disadvantages to their use. It is, therefore essential for individuals considering this treatment to be aware of these factors.

Risk of complications:

While tear trough fillers are generally safe, there is a risk of potential complications. These include the common ones such as bruising, swelling, redness, or infection at the injection site. However, in rare cases, more severe complications like vascular occlusion can occur. An occlusion can cause skin ulceration and facial tissue damage, rarely lead to blindness.

Need for a high level of expertise:

For a successful tear trough filler treatment, you need a practitioner with experience. They need an excellent understanding of facial anatomy and understand how and where to treat delicate under-eye area. In inexperienced hands, there is an increased risk of improper placement, asymmetry, or overfilling, leading to an unnatural appearance.

Risk of nodules or lumps:

Individuals may sometimes develop small nodules or lumps at the injection site following tear trough filler treatment. You can sometimes massage these away, but your qualified practitioner can also dissolve them.

Filler Migration:

Tear trough fillers can migrate, causing unwanted swelling and puffiness in the nearby area. This can occur days to years later, and the swelling can last several years unless it is dissolved with hyaluronidase. Even when the treatment is performed in the most experienced hands, filler can easily migrate from the injected area.  No barrier holds the filler in the tear trough area, so it can move outside of the hollow area over time.

Longevity of the Filler.

While tear trough fillers offer immediate results, it is essential to note that their effects are temporary, typically lasting anything from six months to a year. However, some filler can remain in the treated area for several years. In fact, some MRI studies have shown filler can remain even five years after treatment.

In contrast, PN treatments may offer longer-term benefits by stimulating collagen production and promoting skin rejuvenation. Polynucleotides do not stay in the skin for long and do not cause side effects later down the line. Should they migrate, they simply stimulate rejuvenation/revitalisation in the area.

How do you decide which treatment is for you?

The choice between tear trough fillers and PN treatments depends on individual preferences and their specific concerns. A comprehensive consultation with a specialist who understands the treatments can help determine the most suitable treatment. They will need to examine you, assess your anatomy and concerns and discuss with you how best to achieve your aesthetic goals.

At Cheshire Lasers, the following doctors perform Polynucleotide treatments and tear-trough fillers. If you are considering a treatment, we recommend you book a consultation with one of them to assess your concerns.

Do you prefer a non-injectable under-eye treatment?

Cheshire Lasers also provides under-eye treatments using medical devices such as HIFU, Radiofrequency, and CACI.

Profhilo Structura

Profhilo Structura Middlewich Cheshire

Introducing Profhilo Structura

Profhilo Structura is an exciting new treatment that regenerates the superficial fatty tissue under the skin. In the same way that Profhilo restores skin cells, Structura restores the tissues in the adipose layer of the skin to give a lifting, contouring effect. It is the first and only treatment available in 2024 with evidence that it can stimulate the cells in this layer.

How does Profhilo Structura differ from Profhilo?

Structura contains more Hyaluronic Acid (90mg/2ml ) than Profhilo (64mg/2ml), which means it behaves differently in the tissues.

Standard Profhilo spreads easily through the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin.

Structura spreads in the fatty tissue, activating ageing adipose fat cell receptors and encouraging them to mimic the behaviour of their youth. This improves fat cell quality and a lifting effect. Structura is clinically proven to restore superficial fat to its original position, effectively reducing facial hollows and skin laxity, resulting in a more lifted, contoured, and rejuvenated facial profile.

Like the original Profhilo, Structura is not a filler. The results people achieve are due to tissue regeneration.

Both treatments offer unique rejuvenation and anti-ageing benefits tailored to different concerns and treatment areas.

What does the treatment involve?

The treatment is quick and easy to perform with minimal discomfort. A cannula inserts the product into the correct layer and position, and you can often see an immediate lifting effect. The product then gets to work, stimulating the cells in the adipose layer. A second treatment is required 30 days later to continue the process and achieve visible results.

Downtime is minimal, so you can go about your day after treatment.

Maintenance and Follow-up

Maintenance treatments are typically every four to six months to maintain the results, depending on a person’s individual response.

Who is suitable for Treatment?

We recommend Structura treatment for patients with well-defined structures that need superficial enhancement. It is a popular choice for those seeking natural, subtle improvements without a drastic change in facial volume.

Treatment protocols vary depending on how you have aged.

Patients are usually either:

  • ‘Sinkers’ – thin faces with facial hollowing needing lateral volume. Profile 1.
  • ‘Saggers’ – heavier faces with skin descent due to laxity, slight jowl formation and flattening of the cheek. By injecting along the cheekbone and in front of the ear, we can achieve more reshaping in a natural, balanced way. Profile 2.

Profhilo structura Cheshire ageing profile suitable for treatment

Is Profhilo Structura Safe?

So far, studies have shown no concerning adverse events.
Patients have reported high satisfaction and have also shown increased skin thickness and texture.

Can I combine Structura with other treatments?

It can be used alongside other aesthetic treatments, including Botox and Fillers. Treating each layer of the face according to its needs ensures a holistic improvement for best results.

Injectable Skin Boosters

skin booster profhilo Nucleofill sunekos Cheshire

skin booster profhilo Nucleofill sunekos Cheshire

What Are Skin Booster Treatments?

” Skin Booster” describes a range of Injectable Skin Rejuvenation Treatments.

The first Skin Boosters were made from hyaluronic acid gel, similar to dermal fillers. The gel was injected into the top layers of the skin to produce skin hydration and plumping.

Sometime later, more advanced products became available that did not just plump and hydrate the skin but also had an additional action on the skin cells. These new products stimulate the cells of the skin in a range of different ways, so they don’t just hydrate the skin but also stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

These treatments perform a process of bio-remodelling, and all of them require a course of treatments a number of weeks apart.

Which Skin Booster Treatment is Best for me?

There are so many available now it is difficult to know which one is best for you. At Cheshire Lasers, we have tried so many over the years. Some we continue to use, and others we have discontinued when something better has come along.

Each treatment contains different ingredients with distinct properties and modes of action.
The procedure for delivering the treatments to the skin also varies. Some require needle injections, whereas others require a cannula to place the product into the skin. The downtime after each treatment and the common side effects post-treatment also vary.

There are pros and cons to each type. It depends on the area of concern, which treatments you have had before and how you have responded. Do you prefer a needle or cannula treatment? Or prefer to have fewer treatment sessions?  Or prefer a treatment which does not contain hyaluronic acid?

Collagen stimulation is not an exact science, and some people respond to one treatment better than another.

At Cheshire Lasers, the following Skin Boosters are available:

Profhilo

profhilo treatment cheshire

Profhilo has been one of the most popular skin booster treatments at Cheshire Lasers.

This treatment has been available since 2017 at Cheshire Lasers, so our medical team have lots of experience with this treatment.

Active ingredients:  Hyaluronic acid.

It involves ten injection points, which result in small lumps under the skin.

The treatment takes 5 to 10 minutes.

The lumps go down over 8-24 hours as the product disperses under the skin.

The treatment promotes collagen and elastin growth to reduce skin laxity and improve skin hydration.

Most people need two treatments, one month apart.

Results last for approximately six months.

To maintain results, you will require a maintenance treatment every 4-6 months.

This treatment is performed by Dr Teri Johnson, Dr Kathryn Hazlehurst and Dr Kyra Drinnan.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides- Nucleofill Plenhyage and Plinest Rejuvenation TreatmentsPolynucleotides have been used since the 1950s; initially, they were used for wound healing.

Active ingredients: Polynucleotides ( the building blocks of DNA).

Nucleofill, Plenhyage, and Plinest are all polynucleotide treatments that regenerate the skin by stimulating collagen and elastin growth in the skin. They also improve signs of ageing, reduce laxity and dehydration, and improve scars and some pigmentation.

Polynucleotides can improve the skin anywhere. They are a popular treatment for the tear trough area, where they help decrease lower eyelid laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles and improve skin hydration.

??  It involves multiple injections into the skin with a needle or cannula.

Side effects include bruising and swelling for a few days.

The treatment stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, increases hydration, and has an antioxidant effect.

Most people require 2 to 3 treatments, spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart.

You will need another treatment every three to six months to maintain results. (Frequency depends on your response to treatment.)

Find out more about Polynucleotides here:

This treatment is performed by Dr Kyra Drinnan,  Dr Johnson and Dr Hazlehurst

PRP

PRP has been around a long time.

It is a natural skin-boosting treatment that uses platelets from your own blood.

When activated, platelets secrete and release at least seven different growth factors, which enhance the natural healing processes.

The treatment involves multiple injections with a fine needle.

PRP can treat all the layers of the skin, superficial and deep.

The treatment stimulates collagen growth, improves the blood supply to the tissues and can greatly improve skin tone and texture. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Most people require three or four treatments, one month apart.

Sunekos

sunekos CheshireSunekos has been around since 2020.

Active ingredients:  Hyaluronic acid and Amino Acids.

It involves multiple injection points.

It involves injecting two different products; one is for deep hydration, and the other goes more superficially into the skin.

Sunekos stimulates the fibroblasts in the skin to produce collagen and elastin.

It helps improve skin ageing, skin dryness, acne scarring, sun damage, loss of tone & elasticity, under-eye dark circles and fine lines and wrinkles.

Sunekos can treat the face, neck, décolleté, forehead and hands. It is particularly effective in the Periocular (eye) area, to reduce fine lines, dark circles and bags.

Most people require three or four treatments, 14 days apart.

You will require a maintenance treatment every 3-6 months to maintain results.

Sunekos is performed by Dr Teri Johnson

Hand Rejuvenation Treatment with CACI

CACI hand rejuvenation treatment

The CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment is CACI’s newest treatment which treats the hands with a unique combination of their new Rejuvenating Hand Mask and Electro Glove technology.

Hands can be one of the first areas to display signs of ageing, they are also constantly exposed to the elements often causing the skin to become sun- damaged, dry, cracked and dehydrated.

This treatment will leave your hands feeling silky smooth and looking visibly softer and more youthful.

What Does the CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Involve?

It involves the application of the CACI Rejuvenating Hand Masks, then inserting the hands into the CACI Electro Gloves (made from a special electrically conductive material). The Gloves are then connected to the CACI machine, which produces tiny electrical impulses which deliver the rejuvenating effect.

The Hand mask is an intensive skin conditioning glove which contains powerful ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolysed Collagen and Shea Butter. These ingredients help combat the sign of ageing by softening the skin and smoothing the appearance of fine lines.

The electrical pulses help deliver the product into the skin and boost the circulation, as well as stimulate collagen.  This improves skin firmness and also leaves your hands feeling soft, supple and rehydrated.

How Often Should I Have a treatment?

You can have a course of treatments. Similar to other CACI treatments, a course of 10 is usually required for best results, ideally two a week.

However, you can have a one-off treatment to give your hands a treat and enhance their hydration.

How Long Does the CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Take?

The treatment takes 30 minutes.

You can have the treatment on its own, but it is more popular as an add-on treatment as we can treat your hands at the same time as some of our CACI facial treatments. This means the total treatment time is only an extra 10 minutes.

The Ultimate Hand Rejuvenation Treatment

The Ultimate Hand Rejuvenation Treatment involves the above CACI hand treatment combined with our popular Biorepeel TCA peel.

This treatment Combines the CACI Hand Rejuvenation with a Biorepeel.
The peel component improves collagen stimulation and resurfaces the skin, improving skin tone and texture while reducing pigmentation.

This treatment takes 40 mins but is 20 minutes as an add-on treatment.

It can be performed every two to three weeks, and you can perform the standard CACI treatment in between.

Which CACI Treatments can I add the Hand Treatment to?

CACI Hand Rejuvenation Treatment Prices

You can view our CACI Treatment prices here.

The CACI Hand Rejuvenation treatment is £47 on its own, or £27 when added to another CACI treatment on the same visit, so it is more cost-effective as an add-on.

We often have special offers, which you can view on our Fresha appointment system.

Questions about CACI?

Our frequently asked questions about CACI treatments cover how micro-current works, whether it is suitable for you, side effects, and how many treatments you need.

Jowl Treatments

Dr Johnson Discusses Jowl Treatments at Cheshire Lasers:

Learn why we get jowls, the available treatments, and how we can help you achieve the best results at Cheshire Lasers!

Cheshire Lasers provides a wide range of jowl treatments that work in various ways. When considering which treatment is right for you, it is important to understand why your jowls have developed in the first place. Different treatments address different problems, and some people require a combination of treatments for best results.

Why do we get Jowls?

As we age, many changes occur that cause the soft tissues of our face to descend and form jowls.

  • Facial bone and fat loss reduce facial volume, so the soft tissues are no longer supported.
  • The skin loses collagen and elasticity.
  • Fat can develop in the jowl area, which pulls down the soft tissues due to its weight.
  • The depressor muscles in our lower face become hyperactive and pull down the skin.

jowls treatment cheshire

At Cheshire Lasers, we often see people concerned about their jowls who are looking for treatments. When considering which jowl treatment is right for you, we advise you to consider the following:

  • Is the treatment invasive or not?
  • How effective is the treatment?
  • Are there any potential side effects?
  • Does the treatment hurt?
  • How many treatments will you need (especially if you have a busy schedule)?
  • How long do the results last?
  • Do you need maintenance treatments?
  • What is the cost of the treatment?

Jowl Lift Cheshire

Which treatments are good for Jowls?

CACI Jowl Lift

The CACI Jowl Lift is a non-invasive, effective treatment for the jowl area. It targets muscle laxity and overactivity around the jawline. Using electrical stimulation, this treatment retrains the muscles, lifting, firming and refining the jawline. It takes approximately 15 minutes/ treatment.

A course of 10 treatments is required, but they are not expensive. After that, we recommend a maintenance treatment every month to maintain the results long term. There is no downtime, and side effects are very rare.

This treatment works well in most people, but works less well if you have very heavy jowls with large amounts of fat deposits.

Find out more about the CACI Jowl Lift.

Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency is a non-invasive effective treatment for skin laxity which can help improve the jowl area. It works by stimulating collagen in the skin making it firmer and plumper it also improves skin tone and texture.

A course of 6-8 treatments are required. After this, a single treatment is recommended every 6 to 12 weeks to maintain the results long term. There is no downtime and side effects are very rare.

We have two radiofrequency treatments available:

  • ThermaClinic – Great for full-face treatments which take an hour.
  • Endymed – A more intensive treatment with an innovative jowl shaper handpiece designed to tighten the skin and mobilise the fatty area of the Jowl.  A treatment takes 40 minutes.

Ultraformer Jowl Lift and Tighten Treatment

The Ultraformer is a slightly more aggressive treatment which reduces the fat in the jowl area and stimulates collagen to give a lifting and tightening effect. High focused ultrasound energy is used to injure the collagen and fatty layers under the skin. This induces fat loss and also stimulates healing and collagen production.

Mid Face and Jawline Volumisation

Mid Face and Jawline Volumisation involves injections of Dermal Fillers or collagen stimulators into the areas where volume has been lost. Each face is different and will require a bespoke treatment plan but often the cheek and or jawline need treating.

You may need between one to three treatments depending on the amount of volume loss. 20% of people may get bruising or swelling but there is usually no downtime.

Which treatment is right for me?

We recommend booking a consultation so we can assess your face and identify the causes of your jowls. This allows us to advise you on the treatments most likely to deliver the best results.

During your consultation, we will also take into account your lifestyle and preferences regarding downtime. For example, some clients prefer more powerful treatments carried out less frequently, while others are happy to commit to a course of gentler treatments that can be equally effective but require more time.

If you are only considering machine-based treatments, you may book a consultation with one of our experienced aestheticians.

If you are also interested in injectable treatments, we recommend booking with Dr Teri Johnson, who has expertise in all of the treatment options we offer.
