Acne / Blackheads / Breakouts

At Cheshire Lasers, we offer a range of acne treatments and products to create a programme tailored to your individual needs.

What is Acne?

Acne is a common disorder of the skin’s sebaceous glands that results in clogged pores, whiteheads, blackheads, spots, inflammation of the skin and sometimes scarring.

Acne occurs when the sebum is not able to pass through the hair follicle; this happens because the cells of the follicle walls are shed too fast and clump together, blocking the opening of the hair follicle so the sebum cannot get through; bacteria then start to build up and grow in the area, creating an acne lesion. It is most commonly found on the face, chest, and back. It can have a real impact on your confidence and the way you feel about yourself.

Before any treatment can be carried out, we recommend a full consultation. We will identify your concerns and go over the treatments you have tried in the past. We will want to know the treatments you have tried from your GP, Dermatologist and other clinics. A medical history will need to be reviewed to ensure the most appropriate treatments are recommended. To ensure your medical history and medications do not contraindicate the treatments.

We can then discuss your best treatment options and the most likely outcomes. We may even advise you to return to your GP for treatment.

Who should I see at Cheshire Laser about my acne?

For mild to moderate acne:

One of our aestheticians can help you.
A 30-minute consultation is £25.

Should you purchase any skincare or arrange any treatments the £25 consultation fee is deducted from the cost of your treatment.

You can book this here.

For Moderate to Severe acne or acne that does not respond to treatment:

If you have not done so already, we highly recommend you see your GP, who can prescribe a range of topical or oral treatments. You may even need a referral to a dermatologist for resistant cases.

If you have gone down that route and are still struggling, we recommend you book an appointment with Dr Johnson.

A 30-minute private consultation is £50.

She will discuss the treatments you have had over the counter and on prescription from your GP and Dermatologist, as well as skincare products you have tried.

Hyperhydrosis

hyperhydrosis treatment in Cheshire

Cheshire Lasers Hyperhydrosis Treatment Information

Do you suffer from embarrassing excessive sweating?
A man with sweat marks under the arms of his shirt

Hyperhydrosis, also spelt Hyperhidrosis, is the medical term for excessive sweating.

In 2004, the FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) approved BOTOX (Botulinum Toxin Type A) for the treatment of severe primary axillary Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms) in patients unable to obtain relief using antiperspirants.

BOTOX is the most studied brand of Botulinum Toxin in the world. It can treat a wide range of conditions, including spasticity and movement disorders. Botox has FDA approval in the United States for the treatment of excessive sweating.

Local injections of Botulinum Toxin alleviate the symptoms of Hyperhydrosis.

Research has shown that treating the armpits, hands, feet, and face with Botulinum Toxin is safe and effective.

In one clinical study involving 322 patients with severe underarm sweating, 81% of the patients receiving Botulinum Toxin injections achieved a greater than 50% reduction in sweating. 50% of the patients had their excessive sweating relieved for at least 201 days (nearly 7 months).

How does Botox stop Hyperhydrosis?

Botulinum Toxin is a natural, purified protein with the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical in the nervous system that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands. By blocking or interrupting this chemical messenger, Botulinum Toxin “turns off” sweating at the area where it has been injected.

What does a Hyperhydrosis treatment involve?

Your doctor will first identify the area of excessive sweating and the location of the sweat glands.

They will then inject small amounts of Botulinum Toxin with a very fine needle just under the skin in the area. Multiple injections 1 to 2 cm apart are needed to treat one area.

How long does Botox for Hyperhydrosis last?

Botulinum Toxin injections do not cure Hyperhidrosis; your symptoms will return gradually. You will need to repeat the treatment to maintain dryness. These repeat injections may be necessary at intervals varying from 7-16 months.

Which areas can Botox treat for Hyperhydrosis?

  • Underarms
  • Forehead
  • Hands
  • Feet
  • Scalp

The following Cheshire Lasers specialists have Hyperhydrosis training:

Dr Teri Johnson – Underarms and Forehead.

Diabetic Foot Screening

Diabetes can affect the blood vessels of the legs and feet which lead to reduced circulation (vascular disease). This can have a significant effect on healing. Diabetes can also affect the nerve endings in the feet leading to reduced sensation (neuropathy). This may result in foot problems going unnoticed.

A Diabetes Foot Screening appointment will involve:

  • Vascular assessment
  • Assessment of blood supply to the feet, including use of an ultrasound Doppler machine to listen to the quality of blood flow (a painless & non-invasive examination)
  • Assessment of nerve supply/sensation to the feet • Basic biomechanical assessment of the feet
  • Discussion regarding general health, diabetes control and lifestyle
  • Discussion regarding management and prevention of foot problems.

A copy can be passed on to your GP at your request

Diabetic Foot Screening is provided privately by Podiatrist Samantha Hatton.

Samantha has a special interest in Diabetic feet, and she has a wealth of experience managing the problems that can arise, due to her many years working for the NHS as a diabetic foot specialist.

Pigmentation Removal

pigmentation image Cheshire treatment laser

At Cheshire Lasers Clinic, we are often asked: “How can you remove my pigmentation?”

There are many types of pigmentation, with many different causes; some can be treated more easily than others. At Cheshire Lasers, we also have many different treatments that can help you.

The way we treat your pigmentation is based on:

  • It’s cause
  • Your skin type
  • Most importantly, your preferences

How do I decide which Pigmentation treatment to choose from?

At Cheshire Lasers, we offer a wide range of pigmentation removal products and treatments. This makes it hard to decide what to do.

Some treatments work more quickly and are better than others. However, these treatments also tend to cause more side effects, more downtime and are more aggressive.

The gentler treatments tend to take much longer to work. You therefore have to be patient and follow the recommended treatment protocol.

Types of Pigmentation we treat

Your skin gets its colour from a pigment called melanin. Special cells called melanocytes in the skin make melanin. When these cells are damaged or activated, melanin production is affected.

☀️ Superficial Pigmentation (Sun Damage & Age Spots)

This type of pigmentation sits in the top layer of the skin and is caused by UV exposure.
Common examples: Age spots (sun spots/liver spots), freckles, Localised sun damage
✔ Well-defined brown marks
✔ Common on face, hands, chest
✔ Responds quickly to treatment
👉 Best approach: remove the pigment

🌫️ 2. Deeper Pigmentation (Melasma & Hormonal Pigment)

This type sits deeper in the skin and is often triggered by:
Hormones (pregnancy, contraception), heat, and sun exposure and people can also have a genetic predisposition
Example:
Melasma
✔ Patchy or diffuse pigmentation
✔ More likely to return
✔ Requires careful management
👉 Best treatment approach: control pigment production and maintain results

🔥 3. Post-Inflammatory Pigmentation (PIH)

This type of pigmentation develops after skin inflammation or trauma. Common triggers include acne or breakouts, eczema or skin irritation as well as skin injury, picking and aggressive skin treatments or inflammation
✔ Flat brown or grey marks left after healing
✔ Common in acne-prone or sensitive skin
✔ Can affect all skin types (more persistent in darker skin tones)
👉 Best approach: calm the skin + regulate pigment production + gradual fading

Treatment Options by Pigmentation Type

 Superficial Pigmentation (Fast Removal Treatments)

These treatments break down visible pigment:

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) targets melanin in sun spots and freckles
  • Laser Pigmentation Removal targets  more stubborn pigmentation
  • Cryotherapy freezes and destroys individual age spots
  • More about age spots, sun spots and freckles

Deeper Pigmentation (Control & Regulation Treatments)

These treatments reduce pigment activity and improve skin balance:

1) Chemical Peels brighten overall skin tone and fade pigmentation gradually

BioRePeel, pHformula Mela Treatments, Blue Radiance Peel, ZO Peels, and Hydrafacial,

2) Medical-Grade Skincare

Prescription-only Obagi Nu-Derm System to treat melasma and moderate to severe pigmentation problems.

Cysteamine products help regulate melanin production, especially effective for melasma and PIH. Used for long-term control and maintenance

ZO Skin Health System and the pHformula Mela and Tranexamic acid products for pigmentation problems.

Birthmarks

Some birthmarks are easy to treat, while others are much more difficult. At Cheshire Lasers, we successfully treat vascular birthmarks such as port wine stains with our advanced IPL Lumina system.

Brown birthmarks are much harder to treat and do not always respond; an ND: YAG laser would be used to treat this type of pigmentation. If the brown birthmark responds and goes away, there is a 50% risk it will recur over a 2-year period. We often recommend you visit Lynton Lasers in Holmes Chapel for these, as they have a different laser available.

What do I do if I want pigmentation removal at Cheshire Lasers?

We recommend an initial consultation with one of our specialists for pigmentation problems before starting any treatment.

It is helpful to know what sort of treatment you are interested in so we can book you with the right person.

If you are considering starting any pigmentation treatment, ensure you do not plan any sun exposure for the next few months. If you go out in the sun, you will need to cover the area with very high sun protection and keep it covered.

For laser/IPL treatment, you MUST NOT HAVE A SUNTAN during treatments and must avoid the sun completely for 4 weeks after a course of treatment.

The sun will stimulate pigmentation and undo the results of your treatments. It can also increase the risk of complications in your treatment.

At Cheshire Lasers, Pigmentation Removal Treatments are provided by:

Dr Kathryn Hazlehurst

Dr Hazlehurst uses the topical prescription Obagi Nu-Derm system; she also uses cryotherapy for small localised patches of superficial sun damage. Dr Hazlehurst also performs the CliniCare Glow Peel and the Blue Radiance Peel.

Sultana Udin, Senior Aesthetician and Level 4 Laser / IPL Technician.

Sultana uses IPL and, sometimes, the ND: YAG to treat pigmentation with our Lynton Lumina AQS system.

She also uses Cysteamine Creams, excellent for most pigmentation concerns, including melasma and darker skin types.
Sultana also uses the ZO Medical system and the pHformula Mela Products for pigmentation problems.

Sultana also performs a wide range of facial peels and all of our resurfacing treatments designed to improve mild to moderate pigmentation as well as skin texture.

Booking a consultation

Please share as much information about your concern as possible when booking so we can ensure you get the most from your consultation.

During your consultation

We will examine your skin, take your medical history, and help you decide on the most suitable treatment. We will also discuss the risks, costs and recovery period associated with the procedures you are considering.

Find out more about melasma and how we manage it

Preventing Pigmentation

The challenge of treating pigmentation is that it commonly relapses after treatment.

The most important way of preventing pigmentation is to wear good sun protection all year round and a sun block in the Summer.

Try and avoid any other triggers that may stimulate the problem.

To prevent Melasma and stubborn pigmentation returning, maintenance therapy is required. You can opt for repeat treatments once the pigment has returned. However, we usually recommend selected topical skin care. If you start it immediately after treatment with regular reviews at the clinic in case your regimen needs changing, we can help you manage the pigmentation to reduce the risk of it returning.

From booking the appointment through to aftercare, Cheshire Lasers is for me, the most professional salon in the area. Helen is incredibly professional and is expert in microblading. The environment at Cheshire Lasers is also amazingly clean which is very important when having this kind of treatment. Helen T from reviews.co.uk

Helena explained everything about electrolysis during my initial consultation and patch test. She was very gentle and talked me through the whole procedure, giving me aftercare advice and information to take home. Helena is very professional and has a warm approachable personality which makes you feel at ease. I would definitely recommend Helena for electrolysis. Heidi from reviews.co.uk

I am absolutely delighted with the results of my microblading . Helena was lovely, very professional, patient and her attention to detail is exemplary. I only wish I had known about this treatment before. From Anonymous on reviews.co.uk

I couldn’t be happier with the results of the micropigmentation and the service which Helena provided. Having such a procedure obviously requires consideration and I was initially apprehensive, but Helena explained every step of the process and was extremely professional throughout. She is meticulous in the execution of the procedure, with an excellent eye for detail which has resulted in my new hair line looking completely natural. From James on reviews.co.uk

I would totally recommend Cheshire Lasers to anyone, very professional friendly and welcoming. I felt very relaxed and was well looked after. I had microblading done with Helena she was brilliant, showed me some of her work she had previously done, explained the whole procedure, took her time with everything and I absolutely love my eyebrows and would recommend Helena to anyone who is thinking of having this done. From Katia on reviews.co.uk

I saw Helena today for microblading. Helena was very thorough with my eyebrow design and all the way through the process, checking every now and then with me that I was happy. She’s a perfectionist and it was great she spent time ensuring the eyebrows looked just right. Extremely happy with them! They look better than I could of imagined, natural, even, and the colour is perfect! I had scars in both eyebrows so it’s amazing these have been filled in now! My face looks transformed! Goodbye eyebrow pencil! Looking forward to the top-up in 4 weeks. Thank you. Anon on reviews.co.uk

I recently had a number of SMP treatment sessions at Cheshire lasers. After seeing the treatment on social media I became really interested and wanted to learn more about the treatment, so I made a consultation appointment with both Cheshire lasers and a well known nationwide treatment provider. I visited Helena at Cheshire lasers and I found the consultation extremely professional and she took a long time to explain her background and all information about the treatment. I felt so relaxed, reassured and comfortable I could have had the treatment done there and then but I decided to get a second opinion to compare. I reality my mind was already made up on having the treatment done with Helena but it was good to go somewhere else to know I really was making the right decision, after all it’s a major life-changing treatment. The journey from start to finish has been emotional and exciting. This treatment really is life changing and some might be put off by the cost but I can tell you that it’s the best money I’ve probably ever spent and I would spend it again. Helena provides an excellent service and she is very professional and caring. Helena is passionate about achieving results. The completed photos she has uploaded to social media and her website only show the level of detail she goes to, in order to achieve the right result that you will be more than happy with. The initial treatment takes about 4-5 hours depending on how big the area needing treatment is required. However, the practice she works at is nice and relaxing and I was able to listen to music of my choice while undergoing the treatment, so don’t be put off as it goes really quickly and on my last session I almost fell asleep I was so relaxed. I can’t thank Helena enough, to see the finished results within a few months has been fantastic and her experience and expertise is clear from the start of treatment right the way through. I only wish I’d had it done sooner, there will be lots of doubts in your mind but I can guarantee you will enjoy the sessions and seeing “your new hair” evolve over the course is something magical. From Chris on reviews.co.uk

Extremely Satisfied after Microblading with Helen Fryer. I was after natural-looking eyebrows and felt this has been achieved to a very high standard. I am very happy with the results. Helena met my needs perfectly. I was after a natural look and she achieved this brilliantly. She took the time to ask what I would like and worked hard to achieve this I am very pleased with the results. Anonymous on reviews.co.uk

Helena is very professional and explains all aspects of the Microblading treatment. Pleased with the outcome. I now have full well shaped eyebrows, The first time in many years …. Tricia K on reviews.co.uk

Botox Treatment for Migraine

Woman with a migraine

Botox for chronic migraine

BOTOX® is licensed for the treatment of chronic migraine. You are considered to have chronic migraine if you have experienced 15 headaches per month over a three month period, of which at least eight days have migraine features, including; nausea, light or noise sensitivity, pulsating or lateralised pain and lasting hours or more in duration.

How does Botox work for migraines?

It is thought that Botulinum Toxin (Botox) gets into the small nerves that carry pain from the head to the brain, known as C-fibres. This reduces the amount of chemicals released from the nerve ending and therefore interrupts the feedback pathway that perpetuates migraine and headache.

How is Botox given for migraine?

BOTOX ® is given as a series of 31 to 39 tiny injections under the skin or into the muscles in and around the head, the forehead, above the ears, and into the neck and shoulders. The injections are repeated every 12 weeks until the patient no longer has chronic migraine, or until it is clear that treatment is not working.

How effective is Botox for migraine?

The goal is not to become completely free of headache or migraine, but to improve quality of life and to convert migraine from chronic to episodic. Studies show that 47% of patients had a 50% or greater reduction in the number of days with headache.

Response is usually seen after the first or second set of injections. One in four people respond well to the first or second set of injections, and half need more than two sets of injections to get a good response.

The biological effect of Botox on nerves takes several days or a few weeks to work. You should not expect chronic migraine to improve properly in less than 4 weeks. Some patients do not start to improve until after their second set of injections which is given 12 weeks after the first set of injections.
Around 1 in 4 patients do not respond to the injections at all and only 1 in 10 people respond to a third set of injections if the first two sets of injections fail.

Who can’t have Botox for migraine?

  • Botox is only for chronic migraine, not any other sort of migraine.
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding are unable to have Botox.
  • If you have neurological disease, for example Bell’s palsy, a neuropathy, or Myasthenia Gravis, the risks of Botox are increased.
  • If you have recently (within the last 3 months) had cosmetic Botox then the side effects could be increased.

Tell your Practitioner if you:

  • You react to injections (eg. fainting) in the past.
  • Experienced problems with previous Botox injections.
  • Have inflammation, weakness or wasting of the muscles/skin where your doctor plans to inject.
  • Have had problems with swallowing or if food/liquid has accidentally gone into your lungs, especially if you will be treated for persistent muscle spasms in the neck and shoulders.
  • Suffer from any other muscle problems or chronic diseases affecting your muscles.
  • Suffer from certain diseases affecting your nervous system.
  • Have closed-angle glaucoma or are at risk of developing this type of glaucoma.
  • Have had any surgery that may have changed the muscle that is being injected.
  • Are due to have an operation soon.
  • Are taking any blood thinning medicine.

What are the side effects from using Botox for migraine?

  • The injections are slightly prickly or stingy and take about five minutes to complete.
  • It is possible, though rare, to have an acute allergic response so you should stay in the clinic for several minutes after the first set of injections.

Less than 1 in 10 patients experience each of the following side effects:

  • Worsening migraine. This can begin within a day or two of the injections, usually lasts a small number of days. You can treat with your usual pain killers.
  • Rash, itching
  • As with all injections; pain, bruising, bleeding or infection at the injection site are a possibility.
  • Drooping of eyebrows or eye lids. This begins after a couple or a few weeks and can last for a small number of weeks.
  • Muscle weakness, pain, cramp, stiffness or tightness.
  • Weakness and pain in the neck. This begins after a couple or a few weeks and can last for a small number of weeks. It can be treated with regular anti-inflammatory tablets.

Less than 1 in 100 may experience:

  • Difficulty in swallowing
  • Skin pain
  • Jaw pain
  • Swollen eyelid

Can migraine be treated with regular Aesthetic Botox?

It is now recognised that patients can achieve migraine and headache improvement from treating the frown and the forehead using Aesthetic Botox. This involves fewer injections and fewer units of Botox and is therefore a lower price; however, depending on the migraine, it may not be effective, and it is not a licensed treatment for migraine.

How can you get Botox treatment for chronic migraine?

A full Allergan Botox treatment, as licensed and recommended by NICE, involves injecting 155 units over 31 sites. This treatment is most often performed by neurologists in NHS or private hospitals. Some Aesthetic Doctors and nurses also perform this treatment in CQC-registered clinics.

Cheshire Lasers does not currently provide this service.

The Cheshire Lasers Ultimate Luxury 5 Star Hydro2 Facial incorporates all 7 steps and is the complete pamper package.

Here are the 7 treatment technologies which can be incorporated into your Hydro2 Facial:

Treatment 1: The Hydro Deep Cleanse

Similar to the Hydrafacial, this uses a combination of three solutions to cleanse and smooth the skin using AHA- and BHA-based solutions. It hydrates and nourishes the skin, infusing lactic, salicylic and hyaluronic acid to deeply cleanse, purify and hydrate.

Treatment 2:  Exfoliation

This treatment step uses a vibrational cleansing tool and a choice of exfoliation products. It utilises ‘the Bohr effect’ to allow oxygen to be drawn into the skin. Active ingredients include Kojic Acid and Retinol, which provide a hydrating, brightening effect.

Treatment 3: Radiofrequency Skin Tightening

This step uses Radio Frequency technology to increase collagen production. We recommend this step for skin with early and late signs of ageing.

Treatment 4: Skin Lifting with Electro-ion technology

Electro-ion technology lifts the skin by stimulating muscle contraction. It is similar to CACI and works well for jowl and eyebrow lifting.

It uses electroporation, which also increases the absorbency of the skin’s cells for product penetration. This allows our time defence and brightening serums to penetrate deeper into the skin.

This, in turn, revitalises and ‘wakes up’ dull and lifeless skin

Treatment 5: Fire & Ice

5 A – The ‘Fire’ represents the heat element during treatment. The handpiece uses heat to open the pores, increase blood supply and aid product infusion.

5 B – The ‘Ice’ a Cryo facial that uses cooling technology, chilling the skin down to 5℃. This step comes at the end of each facial. It decreases the blood supply, giving a tightening effect and sealing in the infused products. It also helps to reduce any redness following treatment.

Treatment 6: Ultrasound / Hydration

This step uses ultrasound technology to infuse a hydrating collagen-rich serum from a mask for maximum penetration.

Treatment 7: Oxygenation

The Oxygenation spray is used to apply a hydrating serum. It creates a Venturi effect which breaks down the serum molecules and encourages maximum absorption. This helps to deliver intense skin hydration.

Applying oxygen to the skin using this method helps to increase cell metabolism and improve these concerns. Some bacteria cannot live in oxygen, so applying oxygen to the skin provides an antibacterial effect that can help reduce congestion.

Here is our feedback from our first treatment:

HYDROFACIAL – 5* ultimate facial!! Everything you could ever want in one facial! I’ve experienced many facials over the years, but this treatment absolutely blows everything else out of the water!! Highly recommended – it combines a traditional hydra facial with radio frequency (using a much improved and more superior machine), together with muscle stimulation and tightening (similar to a CACI facial – of which I’m a huge fan). It doesn’t stop there, my therapist Natasha continued the treatment with lots of anti-ageing and hydrating serums and a gel mask infused with collagen and antioxidants, which was stimulated using sonic vibration. The final stages were an oxygen facial and finally a cryo-facial. As I stated, this 5* facial combines absolutely everything!!
My therapist, Natasha was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, she explained every procedure and highlighted the benefits!!
The results are AMAZING, my skin is positively glowing and lifted! Definitely a red carpet treatment. Give it a try, I promise you, you won’t be disappointed ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tara Shotton’s Training

Tara qualified first in Reiki 1. She saw firsthand the difference it made in her own life, as well as for her family and friends. As a Reiki Master, Tara also offers Reiki training at all levels to support you on your own healing journey.

Tara chose to further her speciality by offering Mindful Reflexology, which is specifically designed to target areas of the body linked to stress responses. It also includes mindfulness-based guidance to help calm the mind and body, as well as self-help tools and practical advice you can use between sessions for lasting support.
