pHformula CR Treatments for Chronic Redness

phformula CR chronic redness

What are pHformula CR (Chronic Redness) Treatments?

pHformula CR Treatments include home products and clinic prescription facials for treating chronic redness. They can improve a range of red skin problems due to inflammation or a breakdown in the skin barrier function.

Skin redness can develop due to various skin changes; treatments vary depending on the cause. Find out more here.

What does the Chronic Redness Facial Treatment do?

At Cheshire Lasers, we provide a tailored facial treatment to address red inflamed skin. Once we have treated your skin once or twice, we can slowly increase the potency of the treatment according to your skin’s reaction and can perform a more substantial resurfacing treatment rather than our gentle facial.

Whichever treatment we use our aim is to:

  • Reduce redness
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Increase cellular turnover
  • Improve collagen
  • Strengthen the capillary walls
  • Smooth skin texture
  • Clearer, brighter skin

What does the CR Facial Treatment involve?

The CR treatment is like a regular facial, except the ingredients target chronic redness.

The treatment takes about 50 minutes and is a relaxing experience like any other facial. However, it also includes a gentle resurfacing step, which can cause slight stinging or tingling for a few minutes. Despite the slight irritation during treatment, this step works from within to improve red skin and rarely causes any visible peeling or irritation after treatment.

For more detailed information, view the bottom of this page.

How do I arrange a Chronic Redness Facial?

Arrange a skin assessment consultation with one of our aestheticians at Cheshire Lasers in Middlewich. They will assess your skin and advise if your redness suits this facial treatment.

If you are suitable, they will give you some products to try on your skin and schedule your first treatment.

They will also recommend you use some home care products for the best results.

The consultation is £25, which we take off the cost of your treatment.

Book a Skin Assessment Consultation

If you are not suitable for this treatment, they will advise you about our wide range of other treatments that may suit your skin better. They will also give you samples to try.

We will recommend CR home treatment first, although prescriptions can vary according to an individual skin:

This combination cleansing thoroughly removes impurities without disturbing the skin’s natural moisture balance.

Step 2: Facial massage/cleanse using PURE rosehip oil.

The oil benefits all skin types of red skin (even oily), providing fatty acids and antioxidants. It has an anti-inflammatory effect and prevents water loss.

Step 3: Degrease the skin using SKIN primer. This will guarantee optimum penetration of other products.

Step 4: (OPTIONAL) LED light therapy for 25 minutes. Red, blue and Infrared light help to improve sensitive and problematic skin by normalising unbalanced skin, reducing inflammation and swelling, and purifying without irritation.

Step 5: Gentle exfoliation/resurfacing skin using SP complex or CR resurfacing treatments. These help activate the skin’s regeneration response and reduce redness.

Step 6: SOS repair mask. This restores the skin’s natural barrier function and provides soothing, repairing and anti-oxidant properties to the skin.

Step 7: Facial Massage

Step 8: POST recovery cream applied for maximum hydration. Provides excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Soothes reddened or irritated skin.

Step 9: SPF 50+ provides UV protection

Reflexology for Long COVID

Reflexology treatments Middlewich Cheshire

What is Long COVID?

Most people who have COVID-19 recover completely in a few weeks. Unfortunately, some people continue to experience a variety of symptoms after their initial recovery from the infection.

Older people are the most likely to experience lingering COVID-19 symptoms. The symptoms experienced are often now called “long covid”. The exact reason for these symptoms are not yet fully understood. It may be a side effect of the infection possibly due to residual inflammation caused by the original infection.

The most common signs and symptoms that linger over time include:

  • Fatigue
  • Cough
  • Chest pains
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Joint pain
  • Memory loss and or poor concentration
  • Mood changes: e.g anxiety, depression

How can Reflexology Help Long COVID?

The Association of Reflexologists has developed guidelines using specific reflexology techniques to help restore physical and emotional wellness to patients who are still struggling with long-term symptoms after suffering from COVID.
These reflexology techniques are not an alternative to seeking medical advice. Before considering reflexology treatment, make sure you speak to your doctor first, to make sure there is nothing more serious causing your symptoms, which may need medical assessment and treatment.
Reflexology may aid and improve some symptoms, including mood, fatigue, aches and pains. Sharron and Tara, our reflexologists, have studied the Association of Reflexologists’ guidelines and techniques and can offer you holistic support by devising a personalised treatment plan for your active symptoms.
If you wish to discuss further, you can contact Sharron or Tara directly.

Treatments for Scars

Acne treatments Cheshire

Cheshire Lasers often receives enquiries asking how we can help treat scarring and acne scars.

Dr Teri Johnson discusses the various treatments available for scars and how they work.

What are Scars?

Scars develop after trauma to the skin; this can be due to an injury, post-surgery, or skin conditions such as acne. They are a natural part of the body’s healing process and occur when the skin’s deeper layers are damaged. This results in the formation of fibrous tissue to repair the injury. Scars may vary in appearance, texture, and size, depending on factors such as the type and severity of the injury, individual healing characteristics, and the scar’s location on the body.

When it comes to acne scarring, any type of acne spot can lead to scarring, but it’s more common when the most serious types of spots (nodules and cysts) burst and damage nearby skin. Scarring can also occur if you pick your skin or squeeze a spot, so it’s important not to do this.

While scars are permanent, they often fade and become less noticeable over time but may still remain visible.

Which Treatments Help Scars?

At Cheshire Lasers, we provide the following treatments for acne scarring:

Other Treatments available elsewhere which may be more appropriate for your condition:

  • TCA CROSS treatment
  • Surgical Excision of scars
  • Laser Treatments: can be ablative and non-ablative.
  • Punch techniques
  • Dermabrasion
  • Scar Revision Surgery

Sometimes, for best results, a combination of treatments is required.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotide therapy is a new way to treat scars. It involves injecting special substances made of DNA and RNA into the scar tissue. Here’s how it works:

  1. Makes Skin Stronger: These substances help the skin make more collagen, which is like a building block that makes skin stronger and helps scars heal better.
  2. Helps Skin Repair: PN therapy helps damaged skin repair itself faster, making scars look better over time.
  3. Reduces Redness and Itching: Scars can be red and itchy because of inflammation. PN therapy can help calm down this inflammation, making scars less red and itchy.
  4. Makes Skin More Flexible: Scars often feel tight and stiff. PN therapy can make the skin more flexible by adding more collagen so scars feel softer and move better.
  5. Improves Scar Colour: Sometimes, scars are darker than the surrounding skin. PN therapy can help lighten the colour of scars, making them blend in better with the rest of the skin.

Polynucleotide injectable treatments are safe with very little downtime. They work well in combination with other treatments to enhance the results.

Overall, they strengthen the skin, helping it repair faster and reducing redness and itching. It’s a simple treatment that can make a big difference for people with scars.

Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as skin needling, involves using small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound-healing response. The needling also can break down old scar tissue and stimulate the production of new skin cells. New collagen and elastin grow as the skin repairs to give a smoother, plumper skin surface.

This treatment also improves skin texture, leading to smoother skin and reduced pore size and fine lines. Microneedling can also reduce pigmentation, which is sometimes seen with some scarring.

Before and after three microneedling treatments for acne scars at Cheshire Lasers.

acne scar treatment

RadioFrequency Microneeding

This treatment combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy.  The combination treatment is much more effective than microneedling on its own. The radiofrequency energy heats the tissue to around 55 – 65°C and, depending on the depth, it stimulates cell renewal, new collagen, increased hydration and  skin resurfacing. The heat is more effective at stimulating fibroblast action, which is responsible for healing and repair.

Radiofrequency Microneeding is a more aggressive treatment than normal microneedling; however, surprisingly, the downtime is often much less. Here at Cheshire Lasers, we have found that fewer treatments are usually needed to deliver the same results.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion involves deep exfoliation of the top layer of skin.  Your skin will look red after treatment but will soon settle down.

Although this treatment claims to treat scars, it only helps with minor superficial scars, such as mild surface acne scarring.

You will need a course of treatments for the best results.

Other Treatments for Acne Scarring

The following treatments are also options for treating scars. These treatments are not available at Cheshire Lasers. However, we may be able to recommend a local clinic that provides them.

TCA CROSS treatment

TCA CROSS treatment involves the application of trichloracetic acid at high concentrations to the base of a scar. This causes trauma to the scar tissue, which triggers an inflammatory response that stimulates the production of new collagen. After each treatment, the scar gradually fills in from the bottom up and reduces in appearance.

This treatment is very useful for various Acne scars, including ice pick, box and rolling scars. It can also help with chickenpox scars and enlarged pores

View more information about TCA CROSS treatment from Dr Maeve Kenningham, who provides this treatment at her Wrexham Clinic.

Laser treatments

You can also consider Laser treatment to treat mild to moderate acne scarring. There are 2 types of laser treatment:

  • Ablative laser treatment – where lasers cause skin trauma and remove some scar tissue, to produce a new, smooth-looking area of skin. This treatment can have significant downtime.
  • Non-ablative laser treatment – where lasers are used to stimulate the growth of new collagen (a type of protein found in skin), which helps to repair some of the damage caused by scarring and improves the appearance

Punch techniques

Punch techniques are surgical methods that can treat ice-pick scars and boxcar scars. There are three types of punch technique:

  • Punch excision – used to treat mild ice pick scars. The scar is surgically removed, and the wound is sealed, leaving smoother and more even skin.
  • Punch elevation – used to treat boxcar scars. The base of the scar is surgically removed, leaving the sides of the scar in place. The base is then reattached to the sides but lifted up so it’s level with the surface of the skin. This makes the scar much less noticeable
  • Punch grafting – is used to treat deep ice-pick scars. As with punch excision, the scar is removed, but the wound is “plugged” with a sample of skin taken from elsewhere on the body.

Surgical Subcision

Subcision is a surgical treatment which can treat deep rolling scars. The upper layer of the skin is removed from the underlying scar tissue, allowing blood to pool under the affected area. The blood clot helps form connective tissue, which pushes up the rolling scar so it’s level with the rest of the skin’s surface.

Once subscision has been completed, additional treatments are usually needed to improve the appearance of the scar.

I have been visiting Cheshire Lasers for at least 10 years now. I used to have regular threading with Clare she was fantastic but sadly she left. I was excited to hear that Jade had opened up her own business in the Beauty room at Cheshire Lasers. She specialises in threading. I had my first treatment today and was not disappointed. She had an excellent technique and the treatment caused very little discomfort if any. I am very pleased with the results and will be back again soon. Thank you, Jade.

Pelvic Floor Treatment

Powerform V-Plus pelvic floor treatment chair at Cheshire Lasers

Stress incontinence is a common problem in women. Dr Teri Johnson spent 25 years as a GP in Middlewich, where women brought it to her regularly, particularly around the menopause as the pelvic floor muscles weaken. Cheshire Lasers offers this treatment because of what she saw in general practice.

Is there a machine that does pelvic floor exercises for you?

Yes — and most people do not realise it exists. Search for help with a weak pelvic floor and what comes up are gadgets to buy for home. There is a clinic version. You sit fully clothed on a chair for thirty minutes, and the treatment produces the equivalent of 15,000 Kegel exercises — far more effective and efficient than exercising on your own. There is nothing to insert, nothing to wear, and nothing to remember to do.

Is there a pelvic floor machine at the gym?

Not that we have come across. There is no ordinary gym equipment that trains the pelvic floor — it is not a muscle you can work by pushing against a weight — and we have not found one in any of the gyms we have used. These are clinic machines rather than gym equipment. Ours is at Cheshire Lasers in Middlewich.

Powerform V-Plus Pelvic Floor Treatment at Cheshire Lasers

Cheshire Lasers provides Powerform V-Plus chair treatments for strengthening and tightening the pelvic floor muscles. Treating the pelvic floor can help a variety of problems, the most common being stress incontinence.

The Benefits of Treatment:

high intensity focused electro-magnetic

What is Powerform V-Plus?

Powerform V-Plus is a powerful, revolutionary pelvic floor and core muscle toning treatment. It uses High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic technology, which creates the equivalent of 15,000 Kegel exercises in a 30-minute treatment.

Powerform V  induces deep pelvic floor muscle contractions equivalent to 15,000 Kegel exercises in just 30 minutes.

The treatment targets the pelvic floor muscle directly and doesn’t require neuromuscular control; the muscle can contract far more than it would consciously, creating highly effective results that could not be achieved using manual Kegel exercise alone.

You may have heard of the Emsella chair. We use a Powerform V-Plus, which works in the same way, using high-intensity electromagnetic energy to contract the pelvic floor muscles far more strongly than you could on your own.

How does Powerform V-Plus Work?

The Powerform V-Plus creates electromagnetic energy fields which trigger the biological effect of exercise in a non-invasive, painless manner. The energy stimulates motor neurone pulses in 100% of the muscle fibre, significantly more than what would be possible in conventional pelvic floor and core muscle exercises.

The treatment engages the Mitochondria which burn off energy, which encourage the muscle to adapt to this increase in energy. The intense muscle contractions stimulate the muscles to create new protein strands and muscle fibres, resulting in increased muscle tone, strength, density and volume.

The treatment not only helps increase fat and calorie burning in the area treated, but it also improves the body’s metabolic rate. Another benefit to the treatment is a reduction in the amount of inflammation in that area of the body.

The overall result increase in:

  • muscle tone
  • strength
  • volume
  • density

Contra-indications:

At Cheshire Lasers we do not recommend a Powerform V-Plus treatment if you have the following:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Copper coil ( IUD)
  • Pacemaker
  • Implanted Defibrillator
  • Reveal Device
  • Active Cancer or undergoing Cancer treatment
  • Large Metal Prosthetics near the treatment area
  • Infection near the treatment area

You will need a medical assessment from our clinic doctor if you have the following conditions:

  • Selected Cardiac or Vascular Diseases
  • Thrombosis or Thrombophlebitis
  • Prescribed Anti-coagulant medications
  • Steroid medication
  • Uncontrolled Blood Pressure
  • Transplant patients
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Auto-immune Conditions / Immunosuppression
  • Fragile Skin
  • Skin Thinning medication

How many treatments will I need?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend a course of around eight Powerform V-Plus treatments to achieve results.

We recommend a treatment twice a week. It can be three times a week if you prefer, however, you must leave 48 hours between each treatment to allow the muscle to recover.

Would a course of Powerform V-Plus treatments suit me?

At Cheshire Lasers, we recommend Powerform V-Plus to strengthen and tighten the pelvic floor muscles.

The treatment can benefit a range of people and problems:

  • Post-pregnancy to improve weakness in the pelvic floor and or abdominal wall muscles
  • Weakness due to ageing – to help prolapse symptoms and or stress incontinence.
  • Muscle weakness due to medical conditions where exercise is not possible.
  • To help pelvic floor weakness problems when  pelvic floor physiotherapy and exercises have failed to help the problem

Is the treatment safe?

Yes! The Powerform treatment transmits consistent electromagnetic fields to the pelvic floor, triggering the biological effect of Kegel exercises in a non-invasive, painless manner.

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment lasts 30 minutes, making sessions suitable for even the busiest of lifestyles!

What will I feel, and do I need to undress?

You stay fully clothed throughout. The treatment is completely pain-free but can sometimes feel a little uncomfortable — you simply sit on the Powerform V chair while it stimulates thousands of muscle contractions.

Why consider a Powerform V-Plus Pelvic Floor Treatment?

The current guidelines recommend pelvic floor muscle training as the first-line conservative treatment for stress incontinence and mild prolapses. Exercises need to be performed regularly every day and continued long-term to make a difference. Some people struggle to do the exercises due to a lack of time/commitment, whereas others have a poor, ineffective technique, so the exercises do not improve the problem.

To help with pelvic floor exercises, your GP can refer you to a physiotherapist who specialises in pelvic floor problems. They can advise you about technique and help you improve the efficiency of the exercises so they actually cause changes and improvement. Physiotherapists can also help you by using a biofeedback device to measure the strength of the pelvic floor muscle to help educate you when you are making strong contractions and also advise if the exercises are making a difference. They can also advise about vaginal cones. Some physiotherapists also use electrical stimulation to help the muscle contract and increase muscle tone.  Despite these interventions, some people still struggle to improve their pelvic floor strength and tone.

Powerform V-Plus targets the entire pelvic floor, unlike the electrical stimulation devices and unlike conscious pelvic floor exercises, which only target a small area of the pelvic floor.  A treatment session of 30 minutes is equivalent to 15,000 Kegel exercises, so each treatment leads to quicker and more dramatic muscle changes compared to any other treatment.

Does the treatment replace Kegel exercises?

Powerform treatment is considered more effective, as Kegel exercises cannot achieve the intensity or number of muscle contractions that the treatment achieves in a 30-minute session.

It is still recommended that you perform some exercises, especially after your course of treatment, so you can continue to maintain the strength and function of your pelvic floor. You can, however, book maintenance treatments if you prefer as an alternative.

What types of incontinence improve with Pelvic Floor Treatment?

Stress incontinence is the most likely to respond to pelvic floor treatment. Mixed incontinence can also improve to some extent.

What is stress incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a condition in which there is an involuntary loss of urine on effort, physical exertion, sneezing or coughing. A weak pelvic floor most commonly causes this, hence why pelvic floor exercises are recommended.

How much is pelvic floor treatment?

Treatment Price
A single 30-minute treatment £50
A course of eight treatments £400

The course price is simply eight treatments at the same price — there is no discount for booking them together, and nothing to sign up to. We would rather keep the price reasonable and let you pay as you go, so you can fit the treatments around a busy life and come back to it whenever it suits you.

Pelvic floor treatments are sometimes included in our special offers — see this month’s offers.

View all our pelvic floor treatment prices

How do I book a pelvic floor treatment?

Start by completing our consultation form. We go through it to check the treatment is suitable for you, then arrange a short telephone or video consultation to talk it through and book your first appointment.

You stay fully clothed for the treatment. Wear something light and comfortable — leggings rather than jeans — and avoid metal zips, belts and buckles.

Powerform Pelvic Floor Treatment Reviews

Feedback Received 1 week after 8th Treatment:

I have had a week pelvic floor and mild stress incontinence for years and this has got worse over time. I struggle to feel my pelvic floor and therefore find pelvic floor exercises impossible.  So I thought I would give the Powerform a try.
At first, I felt very little during the treatment and was concerned my muscles were past improvement. After a few treatments, I was more aware of my pelvic floor muscles and felt I could contract them slightly better than I could before. On my 6th and 7th treatments the muscle contractions felt more intense and I became more aware of my own pelvic floor contractions in between treatments.

A week after my 8th treatment on the powerform chair I am so much happier with my pelvic floor function. I can feel a significant improvement in the strength of my muscles and the stress incontinence has improved a lot.  I plan to have another couple of treatments over the next month and will definitely continue with the recommended 6-week maintenance

Feedback received on the day of 8th treatment:

Pleased with the results of the powerform pelvic floor treatment. Just had my 8th treatment, my pelvic floor feels tighter and I can feel and use the muscles in this area much more. I have improved control passing urine and it has reduced my stress incontinence. Thank you, TS.

Feedback received on the day of 8th treatment:

I was having several leaks a day whilst coughing, sneezing, lifting, physical exercise and certainly if I didn’t make it to the toilet on time.  Now I think its mostly reduced to just physical exercise as I feel more in control at other times.
I would definitely recommend the treatment as I do feel more confident. I am determined to carry on with pelvic floor exercises and follow up with occasional Power Chair treatments.

Dermaplaning treatment at Cheshire Lasers, Middlewich

Jade Maines of Beautology performs Dermaplaning treatments at Cheshire Lasers Clinic.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that brightens and gives the skin an instant glow.

A sterile scalpel is used to gently and safely remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin (epidermis).

This non-invasive treatment leaves the skin more receptive to serums and moisturisers, therefore increasing cell renewal and the production of collagen and elastin, for a more youthful and rejuvenated complexion.

An added bonus to this treatment is the removal of the vellus hair (peach fuzz) on the surface of the skin. This gives a silky look that allows make-up to be applied flawlessly. The treatment is pain-free and many clients have reported it is as a calm, relaxing experience.

What are the Benefits of Dermaplaning:

Removal of dead skin cells
Increases cell turnover (increased collagen production)
Instantly reveals brighter, glowing skin with minimal downtime
Baby soft skin
Removes vellus hair (peach fuzz)
Aids product absorption by up to 70% allowing serums and moisturisers to reach the lower layers of the skin and be more effective
Make-up glides on and sits on the skin smoothly
Unclogs pores
You can benefit from a one-off treatment for a special occasion or have a course of treatments as part of your regular skincare regime. (every 3-4 weeks)

Will Dermaplaning affect hair growth?

Dermaplaning does not alter the structure of the hair. Hair growth will return as it was before the treatment and WILL NOT grow back faster and thicker.

Contraindications to Dermaplaning:

Active acne – pustules, broken or damaged skin
Oral retinoids – Roaccutane (cannot be taken for at least 6 months before treatment)
Topical retinol is OK
Active skin infections – psoriasis, dermatitis (if on the face)
Auto-Immune diseases – lupus

Cautions for Dermaplaning:

If you have any of the following, please arrange an initial consultation/assessment before booking a treatment:

  • Diabetes that is not controlled (well-controlled diabetics are fine to be treated)
  • Blood thinning medicines
  • Sensitive skin
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Please note:
We do not recommend a Dermaplaning treatment less than 5 days before a sun holiday.  As the skin is highly sensitive to sun rays following the treatment.

Pre-treatment advice:

  • do not use sunbeds on the day of the treatment and for up to 7 days after.
  • arrive to your appointment make-up free or with as little make-up as possible.

The face will be cleansed and prepped as part of the treatment; however, removing excess make-up and stubborn eye make-up will eat into the treatment time. This means less time for the Dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning Aftercare:

Your skin will be slightly red after the treatment and for up to 1 hour after
You can apply make-up immediately after; however, we recommend you allow the serums to absorb into your skin first for best results, which can take several hours.
Please wear a high SPF for at least one week after treatment.
Vellus hair may feel blunt when growing back
